Second life and roblox? That's the talk of a person who has no experience with vr. Apps like vrchat and and recroom is what they are trying to emulate. They've had consistent growth even without advertising and have incredibly passionate userbases. Meta's stock is already pretty beat down pricing in the uncertainty and the negativity, if they manage to attract kids (and high quality worlds + 2d access for everyone are good steps to turn things around), they will add an incredible business to their hardware business (segment leader), and their vr store business (segment leader) and to their old social media business. I would not bet against them. Being the leader in an industry with extreme potential can pay off extremely well.

Young people love this, they just end up in the competition cause they have better products.

Users have better options, unless meta invests in graphics. Graphics is basically the only edge the competition has.

@graymars1097 Exactly. Social vr is quite different from regular games. Similar platforms like vrchat and recroom grow consistently without advertising and without the backing of a massive corporation. Meta just needs to give users a good enough experience that users won't run towards the competition, and that non-users will think "I would try it once just to see what it's really like". If you look for a somewhat polished vrchat video (like "Best Places to see in VRCHAT"), you'll see something much more appealing than meta's "horizon worlds" (god even the name needs improvement...).

@CHMichael The difference is pretty fundamental. 2nd life is playing dolls, a simulation of a world in a box, while any of these social vr platforms simulate the outside world, the environment you are in.
