  1. Sort of deceptive wording to this story. There are still 20,000 Galapagos Tortoises, but ole George here was from one of the smaller islands. He is the last of his subspecies (only found on that one island). They tried to breed him with another subspecies to at least preserve some of his genes, but those breedings didn't take, the eggs being infertile.
