It's difficult. Smaller whales can be taken to places like Sea World where they can be given antibiotics, dewormers, & fresh food, hopefully fattening them up. But of course, that also removes it from its family pod, if any of them are left from the beaching, making a later release problematic. Not much can be done for the large whales.

@naastione Sometimes, many times, it is of no use, only prolonging the inevitable. Plus, we often don't know what the "real" problem is until after the necropsies. And not all have to be sick. Healthy ones will sometimes beach themselves with their sick family members. Putting them back to sea is just as desperate a measure on our part as beachings are on their part. But you never know if it will work until you try.

@naastione Not sure why you have such an attitude, but often in mass cetacian beachings, internal parasites infestations are involved, distrupting their ability to navigate. It would be like having a bug crawling around in your brain, driving you crazy, and you not being able to do a thing about it. Whale beachings are acts of desperation, not stupidity.
