The strawman in your argument is assuming that C is unsafe, that Rust is safe and that the latter will somehow replace the former. Neither assumption is correct.

Allegedly-Purposely is an actual train station that serves two places at once: the village of Allegedly and the hamlet of Purposely. :)

Andreas Kling is nothing short of a genius. Finally a browser that is not Chromium based and that makes possible to break from stupid decisions from those Firefox maintainers.

grep and tar are often used in installer and uninstaller script. Removing them will break deployment of many packages. Removing packages, even if deprecated, is always a very bad idea, and specially now that storage spaces are getting larger.

To me, it makes sense to port a project from C to C++, as the benefits can't be overlooked. If done properly, it will lead to cleaner, more compact and more readable code. Personally, I've ported some projects of mine from C to C++, a decision that I don't regret. As for the lack of documentation, I can understand the reasons. Programmerss are not necessarily documenters.

I don't respect Poettering. The guy doesn't deserve it.

They recently removed the capacity of mirroring to repositories on GitLab. If they want to delete inactive repos, then what is the point of having a repo? Some software is there for historic reasons, to support legacy hardware, for example. Also, this doesn't help open source software at all. How they do expect me to pay money if I don't receive a penny from my contributions?

@ktol8042 Good one!

C can be a safe language. People using C have to follow good practices.
3
If you want to be clean, just don't use egrep and fgrep.

Gnome is the most anti-freedom desktop environment.

What is that? Gen Z devs? They want to be starred? GitHub is not a road to fame.

Nonetheless, Pulse more often than not messes up audio settings. This issue is known for years!
2
The only way of ending the drama is to end R4L.
2
LOL. What's next? A 100000% improvement?
2
But OBS is really terrible. It crashes often and it is buggy.
2
GPLv3 is compatible with GPLv2 or later, by the wording "or later".
2
LOL

No wonder. I'm not surprised. Poettering is a mercenary. I think that systemd, now at the hands of Micro$oft, will be too compromised, and it will be a liability instead of an asset. Time to replace it with something better.
2
It is a cash cow made under the pretense of supporting open source projects. Of course, with this, they are not supporting such projects.
2
You failed your mission Brodie. Australia wasn't banned. xD

Hector is poison really, and Rust for Linux is a cancer, so the term fits. Now definitely is possible to confirm that the CoC is to be used as a weapon for these cry babies to use to take out "dissenters".
2
At least, one point for GitHub. I'm glad that I'm using GitLab as a mirror to GitHub.
2
There is the old saying: assumption is the mother of f*ckups.

Who ever things that these backdoors will only serve the government is mistaken. Who also thinks that the government is somehow their friend is also delusional. And, by the way, everyone has something to hide, and you should too, because pretty much anything you do, ANYTHING, can and will be used against you.

Since when the US Department of Treasury has control over cryptocurrency? Wasn't the point of crypto to provide decentralized currencies that are not monopolized or controlled by the fed? People should stop using centralized RPCs.

Even a Raspberry Pi 4 can handle 1080p. But Google being Google. The only thing missing is having some extra garbage code to make the system purposefully slow.
1
Using Rust in the. kernel was a stupid decision that was taken just for the sake of "progress". The result is evident. And as I said before, it is unreasonable to choose an unstable and ever changing language.
1
"No one uses Linux.". Last famous words. Also, desktop Linux is not GNU/Linux. The guy hasn't done his research, and I'm guessing that he just wrote that article for clout and to get more visits.

These guys are ridiculous. Dictatorial even.

NPM is done by woke people and it is crap.

Stallman has a pretty purist view that doesn't cover the inadequacies of the real world and, therefore, are not adequate to the real world. As much as I defend free software, including delivering my actual code to the FS community, I can't totally endorse Stallman views because I live in the real world.

SJWs say: "Lets ruin that project!".

Too many people have nothing to do.
1
Why people insist on using VSCode under Linux is beyond me.

People are so entitled. If you are in someone else's house, you have to follow the house rules, or else you are out. Period!
1
Drew DeVault's take on this is pretty telling, if not downright hilarious. Who in the right mind will create a PR to delete Hyprland from the repository. Oh the entitledness, the arrogance and presumptuousness! Imagine if everyone did that, just because hurt feelings or whatever. There would be nothing in the repo.

The Software Freedom Conservacy is a crap organization, run by woke people. FSF or EFF are much better. SFC is undermining the open source software cause.

Is it possible to blacklist the uutils repository, so that coreutils is not replaced by uutils in my system? The alternative is to use Open Mandriva, and screw if I no longer can install Debian packages. Really, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is unstable, and I consider 22.04 LTS the latest stable version and the least broken one. It has been a sh*t show from there.
1
Kudos to Noveau. However, because of the way NVidia works, and how anti-open it is, I wouldn't bet on it.
1
OSI is woke. And the name is a disaster, as "Post-Open" means no longer open.

If he don't wish to support Coreboot, he is free to do it. However, he has no say on asking other people to do it. Banning entire countries is also stupid AF, but probably he is woke by having such takes, and yes, he will go broke. Really, this sample of a man has freeloader vibes. Wanting to pay some polish dev the equivalent of Polish rates is pretty offensive and stupid. It reminds me of a guy that wanted to buy a project from me very cheaply, because a meal in Portugal is very cheap and that would be enough for me to sustain myself.
