  4. No, OTS is nothing like BMT. All the prior enlisted going through OTS thought it was a joke (as far as difficulty). Even for myself as a non-prior, I didn't think it was that difficult and stressful. All felt like a silly game to me. I kept my head down and just ran out the clock.

  5. Oh, no. It's going to be a cake walk for you as a prior enlisted. My #1 piece of advice is to not volunteer for anything. It's a trap. Absolutely nobody cares about who gets DG (distinguished graduate) after you leave OTS. It's all a game. Just put in your time and go along for the ride.

  6. Hey tonixx, I also am introverted. It all depends on the job. I am actually an missileer, and I'm not in charge of anyone. I am highly trained and have a technical job that i perform. It all depends!

  7. Well... my 4 year degree from an accredited brick and mortar university that was competitive to get in to was a lot harder to get than their online degree in communications from Bob Jones or Liberty University. To each their own!

  9. Hey Nicky! If you commission as a 2lt (O-1), then most likely after 20 years you would be a Lt Col (O-5). To make it to O-7, that is more like 30+ years as an officer.

  11. Hey Beau! You'll get like 2 days of grapple training, but it is very slow paced and low impact. The mouth piece can also be used for doing exercises on obstacle courses, but nobody is expected to put their bodies at risk at any point during OTS. The Air Force very much wants everyone to commission/graduate on time and not get injured. You spend most of your time most days in a classroom or marching around to the dining hall. OTS is not physically challenging.

  13. Hey Emmanuel! Yeah, I also think it is strange no formal physical fitness test was administered prior to arriving at OTS. My recruiter just told me that this was my responsibility to exercise and be in good shape.

  16. Enlisted get their uniforms paid for. Officers (who are paid 3x as much) have to buy their own uniforms. I can't complain, lol.

  19. I joined at 32. There were a couple non-priors in their mid-30s there with me. I don't know of any late 30s specifically. But age really doesn't matter. Nobody cares as long as you are physically fit and healthy.

  20. 90% of the military is enlisted and all enlisted people are provided with uniforms. But officers are expected to buy their own uniforms. An officer's salary can be 3x that of an enlisted person, so I get it.

  21. Yes, they want you to memorize everything verbatim. But this is impossible and that's the point. They are just trying to stress your out over stuff that doesn't really matter.

  22. Ahhh, I would memorize the Airman's Creed, the Air Force Song, and the military alphabet before going. Nothing else really is necessary until you get there.

  23. Hey Kaitlyn! You need to have a 4 year degree to commission as an officer. But anyone can enlist. OTS is for commissioning as an officer.

  26. Hey shahroz! Every time you walk outside of a building you will be marching. You are not allowed to walk or go anywhere not in a marching formation with other cadets.

  27.  @shahrozrizaev4023  , you will only ever march with your ruck when you go to get on the bus to do a 3 day field deployment exercise. They don't want to injure anyone, so they don't make us carry around heavy ruck sacs as a form of exercise or anything like that.

  30. Yep! You don't have to get everything, but if you can get at least your OCPs, name tapes, boots you like and PT gear, that will make shopping day more manageable.

  37. Hey Charles! Air Force Academy grads do go through Air Force basic training for the experience their freshman year. But not for OTS. Maybe they think it would hurt recruitment or just make it too long.

  38. We are required to wear those water camel packs on us at all times and they often tell us all to hydrate and take a drink. They don't want anyone getting heat stroke. So because everyone is drinking water all the time they make sure there is time (10 min or so) every hour where everyone has the ability to use the restroom if they need to. If someone needs to get out of formation to go to the restroom, it really wasn't a problem.

  39. Yes, the drill instructors are either tech or master sergeants. They mostly just teach us to march and guide us around. All the classroom instructors are Captains and Majors.

  52. That is correct. It is 8/9 weeks and your family cannot come with. Eventually you get weekend privileges where you could leave base and see them if they were in town, but more than likely you'd just see them at graduation.
