@geroutathat The leasing companies have asked for their planes back and Russia has refused. The leasing companies have said that they will seek to recover the value of the aircrafts through legal action, however Russia has said that it will not comply with any court orders.

@mattyboy59 Wrong. Russia has refused to return about 500 aircraft leased from Boeing and Airbus. The leasing companies have said that they will seek to recover the value of the aircraft through legal action. Russia has said that it will not comply with any court orders. Im not too sure why you dont know about this, it was one of the first orders of business by Russia after they invaded Ukraine in 2022

@johnlenin830 The legal basis was the Special Economic Measures Act, in direct response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, in accordance with federal legislation. That's if you wanted to get technical. You did claim there was no "legal basis", which of course is not true. If you wanted to understand generally the basis of the seizing, its basically to put additional pressure on Russia to stop its illegal war against Ukraine by straining its economic system and limiting resources that fuel the war. "Did Russia start a war against Canada?" - Ukraine is part of the west now and Russia has said it was in a "hybrid war" with the West. So, there shouldn't be any confusion with regards to action being taken against Russia.

@johnlenin830 "Do you know the reason the Western planes were "seized "?" Yes, Russia seized the aircrafts because its airlines industry is struggling to keep their fleets flying, as they are short of aircraft and spare parts. They will or have already, used parts of those planes for other planes to keep them maintained as long as possible.

Its always a risk, but the rules based order is precisely to create stability and reliability with investing money, thats why the US and western countries are low risk investments. Don't break the law and your money is fine. In fact you could break many laws and your money would still be safe. However, if you start invading western countries then your money is at risk. Not everyone invades western countries though

@johnlenin830 Ukraine is part of western interests and a matter of European security. That should be obvious by now. What do you mean "geographically or legally"? Im not aware of any legal anything that determines a country "western" or being part of western interests. What about Australia, geographically not western. But is part of the west. Canada can seize whatever they want, much like how Russia can seize any western assets in their country too. The issue is repercussions in the market. Western democracies pride themselves on free market and law. If a country seizes assets summarily all the time then there will be less foreign investments. However, in this case, nobody is worried Canada is going to start seizing their assets so its all good baby. I dont know anything about needing the Security Council to do anything really. Maybe Russia can take Canada to the The World Trade Organization disputes or The International Chamber of Commerce disputes. But, no actually no, they cant they were kicked out of both because they invaded Ukraine. I guess there is no recourse for Russia, thats so sad

@alexden7714 There was no coup in 2014. Millions of Ukranians protested in the streets because their President refused to sign a trade deal with the EU. When the people of a country protest and force the leader to resign, thats not a coup, a coup is when a group of people forcefully and illegally take over the government. Only Russia called it a coup because their guy was ousted by the people. He resigned and fled to Russia.
