  1. It depends on how you generate electricity wherever you live. If they burn coal to generate electricity, your Tesla is a coal fired car. The caller from Toronto gets his electricity from the highly reliable CANDU nuclear reactors near him and from hydro generation at Niagara Falls and it's a reasonable question to ask in Ontario. Burning a fossil fuel to make the electricity to charge your car? ... not so sensible.
