They wanted to mass murder as many civilians as possible. Keep in mind Russia also destroyed Gronzy (Chechen War 2) and Aleppo in 2016. Gronzy 1000s civilians murdered. This is Russia, also invaded and occupies part of Georgia and Moldova.
