  5. RSS has always been against personality cult but it must live with it for now because it never had it so good before Modi- in terms of its influence in the 'system.' I can tell you what a friend from the RSS tried to explain its predicament to me through a story. There was an old man who sweated it out for years to build a brand of his shop, selling certain commodities. Then his son took over and started selling new commodities that became very popular even though the old man disapproved of them. But, the shop was so popular that the old man could just watch the crowds outside the shop, wondering whether he should celebrate his son's success or rue the fact that there were no takers for the commodities he used to sell. Well, it's just a story told by my friend. I am not sure whether I should stand by the father or the son.

  14. Hi Soham, let me first thank you for watching our shows. I know you had this question about Ibobi Singh in my last show also. I wanted to answer it then but thought I should first get some feedback from the ground. Unfortunately, I am not really convinced by what my friends in Imphal tell me. For someone who was the CM for over 15 years, Ibobi Singh should have been the Congress' best bet there. I am told his party has lost the plot. I haven't visited Manipur for quite some time but I am given to understand that the Congress in Manipur, like elsewhere in the country, has become totally inactive. So, even if the ruling dispensation is a house divided, the Congress may not be in a position to capitalize on it. As for Karnataka, I don't think the BJP is seriously working on creating a non-Lingayat alternative, for now. It did try to reach out to vokkaligas by bringing in people like SM Krishna earlier , but it turned out to be mere window-dressing. Nonetheless, the party is certainly trying. Look at the people like Mysore MP Prathap Simha. He is being promoted in a big way. But as long as Yediyurappa is around, the BJP can't push it too far. By the way, if you look at Yediyurappa's first stint in power, the mix of backward castes and tribals that he had inducted in the Cabinet then showed his intent to broadbase the BJP's reach. But he was trying this social engineering when he was confident about his political future. It's totally different now. Here is a party that wants to get rid of an old leader without having any alternate plans.
