Pushing limits in the gym is a great start, but it is comfortable since there is no pressure to push boundaries, there is no one to judge you for the way you push and there are no consequences if you fail, except maybe you will get an injury. Life outside the gym is a bit different. If you take small steps in the areas of your discomfort, you will also learn to push the limits there.
It is essential initially to be humble enough to realize where you are so that you start properly, and not exaggerate your knowledge, skills and expertise. Take shte smallest step so that you get going and improve just like in the gym, with patience and perseverance.
