In complete fairness to Epicurus, at least he actually practiced what he preached

I suppose we should seperate a Christian's philosophy from their decision to go to church, and act stupefied when we cannot find the cause of that decision.

@chrisevans1255 Well you would have to be introducing some other context in order to show that Aristotle's trip to Lesbos was for something other than his love of knowledge, where none is extant. Likewise, you would have to show some other cause for Marx's continual failure to do anything productive than his belief that he deserves the fruits of other people's labour, but I do not see the context, when many others were able to accomplish this feat.

@chrisevans1255 Evidently he didn't believe a word he wrote; however not everyone suffers from cognitive dissonance, such as Aristotle, Descartes, and Marx.

@chrisevans1255 Well for a couple more examples: Can we separate Aristotle's philosophic position that knowledge was essential to a happy life from his decision to go on an expedition to Lesbos to basically found the field of biology? Can we separate Rene Descartes's position that knowledge only comes by racking your brain hard enough and his decision to spend the time in between waking up and getting out of bed at 1100 hours everyday thinking?

@chrisevans1255 I am familiar, but it seems to explain it with anything other than what they state the most basic methods one should make decisions by on the faith that something else could be causing it would be ignorantiam

@chrisevans1255 Marxism isn't historicist, or any other field of human study-ist for that matter; these require ideas, and a Marxists would say what we call ideas is simply a biproduct of material conditions.

@chrisevans1255 >What human doesn't suffer from cognitive dissonance? Anyone who is able to practice what they preach and live a good life. Don't go projecting your psyche onto others because your values are so against reality and life that you find it inconceivable that people can not have cognitive dissonance!

@chrisevans1255 Look up "The Metaphysics" by Aristotle, or better yet continue to argue with me

Intellectuals as such love him, so obvious you are going to get Jewish intellectuals who love him; I can point to a number of Jewish intellectuals who dislike him, like Mises, Rothbard and Rand.
