Comments by "Philip B" (@philipb2134) on "How China uses trade as a weapon I FT" video.
The United States has largely followed trade policies in accord within the parameters derived from the Bretton Woods framework. Where the US had imposed import restrictions, generally these had been within the rules of GATT or WTO - Trump administration excepted. The United States had not engaged in trade retaliation because it felt its national pride insulted. If you disagree with this: give some examples.

Make sure your enemies hate each other more than they hate you.

@Khepri Not to distract too much - but how many nations had Han China sought to destroy before the "round eyes ' came? They were "pacified" and allegedly preferred to cultivate crops on nasty steep slopes.

@keith6371 I never heard of "ajzerra" and google couldn't find it. Even if I had, I would expect closer defined references to let, me, and others, assess what you allege. If you had done due diligence and found a credible alternative source, you might be a bit believable. Extraordinary accusations require extraordinary proof. You fall far short... to say the least..
1
@robm838 Quite. You inserted a false equivalency into this discussion most likely in order to cause chaos.

@keith6371 ElBaradei is not a politician in any normal sense. He is a technocrat, former Director General of IAEA. As a Nobel laureate of high visibility, that lets him engage in politics opposed to Al Sisi, with far less fear of official mistreatment. At some point he can have said something about 1 M lives lost in Iraq - but what exactly had he said? What you still fail to grasp is that your credibility is contingent on your statements being verifiable. If you run a web search on ElBaradei, you will come up with over 3 weeks of continuous material to verify. And that’s assuming that you are not blowing smoke up an intimate orifice. Past that… US and allied forces were longest and deepest deployed in Iraq - also the most heavily populated Arabic land in that part of the world, east of the Jordan. If there were 1 M deaths there at the hands of Americans, it were extremely unlikely that another 7 M had perished among smaller population groups in the region. Before you vomit numbers to the world, do your homework. Others can, and embarrass you.

@robm838 If.

@robm838 There is a process under which errors are recognized, and can be corrected. In contrast, Chairman Mao not only is not taken to task for the tens of millions of brutal deaths under his "Great Leap Forward", you put that bastard's face on your currency.
1
@robm838 You are not the world. There are persisting circumstances and troubles. Move on at your caution.
1
@keith6371 Source? 8M sounds high - as in, much higher than the population of Lebanon, larger than the casualties inflicted by the US on both Germany and Japan during WWII. Some outrageous "statistics" are outrageous because they are false.
1
@robm838 "Harvard's study". Once again you fail to provide documentary evidence which can be accessed and verified. Meanwhile, Yale's study shows that 87% of Chinese residents are cannibals. I provided as much verification as you had, and is as credible,.

@robm838 These matters are entirely unrelated. There are many topics which are controversial, but also are not relevant. You might notice that I had not dragged UFO sightings into the mix (until now, haha). Mao has more blood on his hands than Hitler, but he is revered. His face is on the currency, for crying out loud.
1
@robm838 Mao is central to this thread. His little red book brainwashed hundreds of millions of minds, perhaps also yours.

@robm838 Dou yatte sonna koto to ieta ka? / WTF? It more sounds like you sought to intimidate someone who likely had studied Japan since before you were born, but you sought to spin your personal views.
1
@robm838 If you suspect that nothing about Japan has do with age or humility: have some tea.
1
@robm838 Have you had the opportunity of studying the meaning of false equivalency?
1
@Khepri PR China needs to buy iron ore from Australia. There are no other credible sources of supply.. Taking your analogy: what would you order if you walked into a McD and there was no other source of food for 200 km?
1
@burggerbig102 Is it?
1
@burggerbig102 Japan is not an adversarial power, nor was it in the 70s and 80s. Under Chinese (PRC) law, Huawei must share all information in its possession, on demand.
1
@Khepri Indigenous peoples had no sense of property similar to that held by the incoming Europeans. There were treaties ceding land rights, these treaties not fully understood. Is that a source of regret? Yes. Have I found an equitable vector to correct this? No.
1
@Khepri You.
1
@Khepri China was a mess, regardless of what other powers engaged. Might I ask by which means you had somehow inferred my nationality?
1
@Khepri I'm rather confident that my grandparents were far too busy to get involved in such distant activities. I am perplexed by the attitude that: you were shitty, now it's our turn.
1
@Khepri China had long been the dominant power in its region, then was not. This failure was a direct result of its proven misplaced sense of superiority.

@jamesfranko1568 Interesting comment, somewhat goofy.

Your spending preferences are heavily manipulated by very expert professionals..

Wonderful. Let talking.
1
Under Chinese law, on demand Huawei must share any and all information it possesses with the government - period. And PRC does not have an independent judiciary to which it might appeal. Obviously this presents too great a security risk for Australia and its citizens

We had the orange idiot for a few years; Mao launched the Great Leap Forward [sic]..
1
@bestintentions6089 Why?
1
@robm838 The Republic of China /Taiwan is free and prosperous. The quality of life is vastly higher than on the mainland. Mao's "mistakes" killed roughly 30 million at least. That shithead ordered that sparrows should be exterminated, because they ate grain. Idiot.
