In the police report he was being abusive of the guard when he first approached him to confirm he was a guest by calling him a racist a number of times when all he had to do was tell him his room number.. There’s more to this story then his video and version of events

He refused to tell the security guard his room number and according to the police report called the guard a racist a number of times. Even when he was advised that the police would be called if didn’t didn’t show verifying details of being a guest he still did not tell the guard his room number. It took him 5 minutes after police were called to pull out his room key and verify that he was a guest. Now I was also wondering why after he finally showed them his room key that he was still kicked out. The reason being I believe is that he was abusing the security guard by continually calling him a racist instead of just showing him his room key.. I see this as like when an airline steward is abused by a passenger and is escorted off the plane. Apparently when he was leaving he was calling back at the hotel yelling “ racists”. So his video is obviously designed to paint him as the victim but doesn’t show when he was being abusive to the guard.

  10. @MsTrish627 what justice? 2 men have just lost their jobs because their parent company have decided they’d rather risk a wrongful dismissal lawsuit rather then suffer huge profits losses because a viral one sided video portrays them in a racist light. The investigation by a third party is for show as is retraining of staff. It’s all PR. I hope we get to find out the full story and I’m going to give Earl the benefit of the doubt until more informations comes forward.

If you think profiling only happens with black people consider how men , especially white men are scrutinised in the presence of children example at swimming pools and at schools, Brown people are profiled at airport security . Profiling is a security tool and it is unused to protect the public, children and against terrorism.

Any normal reasonable person would have shown the security guard their key when they were first asked if they were a guest. By the way I’ve worked at a Hilton hotel as well, but I know nothing of their current protocols..did you work at reception or security?

  17. J N It was 11 o’clock at night and according to the guest’s account as soon as he entered the hotel he went straight to the lobby area and made a phone call to his mother. Now I’m not sure what the thought process of the security guard was, the guest might have been very loud on the phone or something .Now all the security guard did was ask the person if he was a guest there and what his room number was... the guest refused to tell him his room number even though he had his key on him..What is the protocol when security ask a person to verify that they are a guest and the person refuse to provide a room key or some other form of verification.? What would you expect the security guard to do when the person they are questioning refuse to give you their room number and refuse to leave?

  18. Keith Wright I think that’s exactly what happened. We’ve all been in situations like at airports when we are singled out for the bomb test or when the cops pull us up for a random breath test when we are driving. Most reasonable people even though we are a little pissed accept that’s just them doing their jobs and we cooperate with their requests.. This guest took it way too far by not providing his room key until 5 minutes after the cops were called.

Esther StrategicAdvisor as far as I can tell in the full unedited version of Massey’s video, he did at one point say “ I’m staying here” but still didn’t show him his room number.. you could quite easily interpret “ I’m staying here” as “ I ain’t leaving” as he was already told to leave. The only time the room key was shown was at least 5 minutes after the cops were called.. you can tell he hadn’t shown his room number before because as he was pulling his key out he said words to the effect of “ My room number is 5 something” if he had of shown his room key earlier he would know his room number

Which could mean “ I am not moving” especially since he refused to leave after the guard said if you can’t provide me with your room number I’m going to have to ask you to leave. All he had to do was tell the guard his room number and no incident would have occurred

  23. @peacepumpkin yeah I’m not sure if he is being truthful about showing Earl his key , because he also said he had his key in his hand the whole time and in the video you can see him struggling to get his key out possibly from his pocket when he finally does show him his key. One thing I will concede though is initially I thought Massey was kicked out for being loud and abusive to Earl in their initial interaction, however Earl clearly states in the video that he was being kicked out for loitering.

  24. peacepumpkin you seem to be ignoring the fact that Massey never gave his room number to either Earl or the manager until the very end so management couldn’t confirm he was a guest. The bottom line is both Earl and Massey could have handled this better. Earl could have possibly approached the initial interaction better and with Massey just providing his room number when initially asked

If Massey was calm and controlled and his story checks out then I’m all for Earl getting the sack, however if Massey was abusive then the hotel has the right to boot him out whether he was a guest or not.

Of course he’s appearing calm and controlled in his own video as he is trying paint himself as the victim, The police report said he was loud and angry so let’s just wait till we see the cops body cam video and hotel lobby video before we condemn Earl , the Hotel manager and the cop.

As I have said the hotel is in damage control and even if they believe the guard , the managers and the cop’s version of events they have to act quickly to reduce the damage this bad publicity has caused. I’m going to reserve further judgement until all information comes out.

  31. Jim Knight there is a full unedited version of the video. It just doesn’t include the start of the incident where all the important interactions occurred. It also doesn’t show the full interaction with the cop. It does however show Massey pulling his key out from somewhere when in an an earlier statement he said he had the key in his hand the whole time. It also shows that when Massey did show his key eventually that he wasn’t sure what his room number so he obviously didn’t tell the guard what his room number was if he didn’t know what it was till he saw it at the end

He was obviously pissed because he thought he was profiled but instead of just giving his room number he let this situation escalate until after cops were called before he finally provided a room number... he is just as responsible for this situation as anyone else

Men get profiled when working with children, but even though that’s a shit situation , again I’d prefer society and society and children to be safe rather than sorry.

It took 4:23 into the video before he finally shows his room number to prove he was a guest. The cops had been called before he started taping. This is purely a case of the guest being pissed that he was profiled so he taped the “injustice” and made sure he didn’t show his proof of being a guest which was in his pocket until maybe 6 minutes after he was approached by Earl.   45. johnny xxxxxx I wouldn’t have a clue why he approached this guest, my guess is that he just came off the street and didn’t go to reception but went to sit down in the lobby and proceeded to make a phone call there is probably some profiling involved in his thought process as well, however all the guest had to do was show his room key but he refused to do that until 5 minutes after the cops were called

Any reasonable person would have just showed their room key to the security guard and that would have been the end of it. This guest wanted to portray this as a racist act and that why he recorded it and did all in his power to not show his room key until 5 minutes after the cops were called. It doesn’t show the start of the incident when it is claimed that Massey was loud and angry and calling the security guard a racist a number of times . It doesn’t show the full interaction with the cop . It does not show Massey showing his room number until about 5 minutes after the cops were called. It does show everyone involved being respectful and professional including Massey. The police tend not to lie as they have body cams so it is very easy to pick them up if they are lying

  55. dreman999 good point with the guard saying loitering as the reason for being kicked out. I struggled with why he was kicked out in the end after he showed he showed his room number.. The police report did say he was very loud and angry when he was interacting with him and this could be the eventual reason he was kicked out but we don’t know. I still think all he had to do was show security his room number right from the start and none of this would have happened.

However Massey arrived at 11:30 at night and went straight the lobby to have an urgent call with his mother.. all other guests seem to be doing the normal thing and just heading straight for the lifts to their rooms.. so I give the security the benefit of the doubt to think Massey’s behaviour was a bit unusual... problem happened because Massey got pissed because he thought he was being profiled ( and that’s possible too) and refused to provide his room number to security until about 5 minutes after the police were called.

He took a bible from the room and through it across the floor to the guard and yelled again. When he was out of the hotel he yelled racist again from a distance. I’m not doubting he was a guest at the hotel but it looks like he got abusive and aggressive and that was more likely the reason he got kicked out. In the end. This could have all been avoided if he just showed the guard his room number when initially asked and the guard would have apologised for the intrusion and moved on. Instead he started refused to provide his room number and filmed the incident with the intent of making the guard look like a racist when all he was doing was his job.

However , the police report says he was “ loud and angry” so its interesting how Massey’s didn’t film that bit. Anyway I think he got kicked out after he got loud and angry.

I’m not white and I sometimes get profiled. I don’t like it but thank God for profiling as it keeps society and children safer from the bad guys. It is a necessary evil.

  64. It’s the guards job to make sure the hotel and its guests are safe . He profiled this guest as a potential loiterer and asked if he was a guest.. The guest didn’t like being profiled so instead of immediately saying he was a guest and showing his room number he filmed the incident and gave the guard no option but to have him escorted of the premises....All he had to do was show his room key and the guard would have apologised for the intrusion and moved on. This was a setup.

The guest never confirmed or showed his room key when asked if he was a guest. He refused to confirm he was a guest and then accused the security guard of Being a racist for approaching him and then finally confirmed he was a guest by showing his room key some 5 minute after the cops were called. In the lawyers response he said the guest had shown the room key to the security guard earlier however in the guests own video , you can see by the guests words and actions that this was the first time the key was shown. I really hope this goes to trial as this guy is an opportunist trying to scam an out of court windfall for himself.
