Interesting thought on studs. Dave down at Daves Engine does a lot of Diesel engines and he feel that using head bolts gives a tiny bit of spring on compression that helps relieve stress on the block. Studs in a Diesel doesn't have that bit of give and can lead to more stress on the bolt holes. I am no expert on the subject but it does make some sense. A gasoline engine doesn't have enough compression to make a difference.

It's like olpeoples underwear, it Depends. Every manufacturer specifies something different. Detroit Diesel two stroke engines call for slobbery amounts of grease called peanut butter because that's what it looks like. Different Strokes for different people.
