The RNC didn't even bother to create a policy platform this last time around. The last CPAC was about nothing but galvanizing loyalty to Donald Trump and calling doctors fascists. We're left with an expensive, ineffective government. Then, the GOP says, "See, big government doesn't work." Yeah, because they're breaking it. Government failure actually HELPS THEM get elected. The GOP is the only entity in America that makes it their stated goal to destroy their own institution. Imagine interviewing for a job and saying, "I plan to work hard, get promoted, and eventually destroy this company from the inside."

@vforwombat9915 - It's what they want to make the hearings about. They just don't understand the simple fact that the civil rights riots were not a partisan political thing while the Capitol riot was. They don't know the difference between supporting a cause and supporting violence.

RogerM - There were guns, bombs, and probably a bigger variety of weapons I've ever heard of at a conflict. DC law bans guns in public in the district. Trump and Giuliani hired extra security (Hmm, why?) for that "love fest" from AMONG THE INSURRECTIONISTS who said they had a "Quick response team" with guns right outside the city limits. The Capitol riots came very close to being referred to as "the Capitol massacre."

@warenamihaka225 - You make a good point, but actually I was referring to politicians, not the police. But I do think that's a big part of the problem with trigger-happy cops. They talk about "de-escalation" when they should be concerned with non-escalation.

@vforwombat9915 ... And the hypocrisy is stunning. One time, one Congresswoman, Maxine Waters, said people should get in politician's faces in public. It was not a smart thing to say, but even dumber for the right wingers to even being that up and call it incitement because at the same, they say Trump's rhetoric was NOT incitement. That's not just trying to have it both ways. That's standing in a glass house on a mountain and throwing stones at a mole hill. They say Trump's rhetoric couldn't have incited a riot, but a few FBI agents or Antifa members in the crowd can and did!

@killedthecat1034 - Yeah, I think so, too. The paid trolls make more sense to me than the MAGA folk who do it for free. At least the paid trolls get paid and think they're being patriotic. I'll never understand why anyone would choose these subjects to discuss without any interest in learning the subject matter. It's like if I went on a bunch of comment boards about golfing and criticized golfers all day long with no interest in playing or even watching golf.

@hoax845 - Look at the crowds that were at both the Capitol riot and the civil rights riots last summer. Take away all of the truly non-violent demonstrators last summer. You're left with mostly local thugs who were not organized and had little understanding of government and partisan politics. None were supported by the Democratic party. Take away the truly non-violent demonstrators from the Capitol. You're left with a dozen or so Nationalist groups, including several white supremacist groups. They were organized, traveled from all over the country, many armed, and all driven by partisan politics. They were encouraged and disinformed by the Republican party. The President's cronies used those people for private security. Think about that. The President, who could have any professional security he wanted, had his people hire insurrectionists who had their own "emergency response team" with firearms - illegal to carry at the Capitol - ten minutes away. The President told them to "fight like hell". His lawyer said, "Let's have trial by combat!" as he cheered him on. There is no apples to apples comparison. Democrats did not organize or defend the rioting at the civil rights demonstrations, and it was not an attempt to overthrow the government. Republicans organized and defended the insurrectionists at the Capitol, which was an attempt to overthrow the government.

He told them to go to the Capitol, watched the mayhem on TV, and delayed the response! Do you realized how F'ed up that is?? The PRESIDENT watched the US CAPITOL get attacked and when McCarthy asked him to do something said, "Well, Kevin. I guess you aren't as upset as they are about the election." Why on Earth would security be the job of the politicians?!

I think technically it's a violation of their oath to lie. I wish instead of fultily trying to argue point by point against Trump's lies, they had made his habitual lying itself the issue. It might have gotten around the whole "Nuh-uh. Fake news" rebukes.

Their stated goal was to stop the certification of the winner of a free and fair election to install the loser. That's an insurrection. So, you can only complain if it succeeds, when it's too late?? The police shouldn't investigate attempted crimes?? "So your argument is because the DMC is lying less frequently than the GOP, you side with them because it is the lesser of two evils?" YES. That's what the expression, "lesser of two evils" means! You side with one because it's not as bad as the other. And what did the DNC lie about? The Republicans lie A LOT more than the Dems. Example: False and/or misleading statements made by Obama in 8 years: 148. False and/or misleading statements made by Trump in 4 years: OVER 25,000. And Republican lawmakers keep repeating his lies.

@bherr59 - There were obviously weapons. The police are allowed to use deadly force if someone lunges at them with a knife. Now, if you had to choose between being attacked by one person weilding a knife or 50 people, armed with a variety of weapons, what would you choose? No jury in America, nor any reasonable person would call that an unjustified shooting.

@MrMcAwolfe - It wasn't gain of function. You should listen to what Fauci said. Republicans are trying to muddy the definition of "gain of function". Be practical. The NIH funded that lab to study those diseases in order to combat them. Demonizing the American professionals who dedicate their careers to keeping us safe is absurd. By the way, no conclusion has been reached about how the outbreak even started, and the leading theory is that it jumped species in Chinese wet markets. I think it's a foregone conclusion that we won't be funding any Chinese virology research for the foreseeable future until we straighten it out.

I thought he might have "pivoted" after the 2016 campaign and maybe that insane rhetoric was just campaign BS, (not that it was okay), but he didn't.
