The argument is basically that if anyone they don't like has ever committed a crime, it's okay for them to, and if you try to investigate, then THAT is a crime. So, every unsuccessful prosecution makes the prosecutor a criminal. Even being part of an investigation that doesn't result in a charge and successful prosecution makes them victims of a travesty. Even when it's not up for debate that they're guilty. Trump illegally took the records. He's guilty of that. Period.
