'That's politics, darling', says the terribly patronizing entitled man.

An illuminating, fascinating podcast. Tommy Vietor and his amazing guests "hit it out of the park."
17
I was appalled to see members of the state of Florida's delegation to the Democratic National Convention try to rip the protest banner from the hands of delegates seeking to promote a ceasefire and a halt to the genocide in Gaza. Intra-party censorship is not a good look for the "big-tent" party.
15
Did not Biden declare that an Israeli offensive against Rafah constituted a line not to be crossed.

The Israeli pager attack quite demolished Israel's oft-asserted respect for civilian life during its military operations. Israel has long claimed that it uses near surgical precision in targeting enemy combatants and does its utmost to avoid civilian collateral fatalities. The pager attack gives the lie to Israel's declaration that it wages war in the most scrupulously moral way possible...and the indiscriminate nature of the attack--wherein non-combat zones and civilians were terribly impacted--has instilled a sense of terror in citizens. Hence this was an act of terrorism: Terrorism infects citizens' lives with a sense of terror through degrading their sense of security and normality.

Mitt Romney told McKay Coppins that he (Romney) could not disrespect anyone more than J.D. Vance for his 'MAGA makeover.'
12
God but I love Bernie Sanders. Long may he serve the people of America and the world.

Another outlet reported that Iran gave Israeli intelligence quite detailed information well before launching their missiles. And as expected, Israel's "Iron Dome" defence system took out all but three of the Iranian missiles. (Only one casualty resulted from the attack.) Thus the question, Why did the Israelis feel the need to retaliate militarily?
12
As has been oft-noted, gender is a social construct, whereas sex classification is firmly rooted in science...and science has made it clear unequivocally that sex is NOT binary (i.e., more than two categories exist, everyone cannot be slotted into one bin or the other).
11
The obscenity of the amounts that American "star" athletes and entertainers earn is deeply disturbing and an affront to any notion of the actual worth of one's labour to the larger society. When civilizations are imperiled, do people turn to footballers, or to essential workers? The differential in compensation is grotesque.
11
Re: Aid to Ukraine; Did not the Republican dominated American Congress so delay aid to Ukraine that it cost Ukraine in lives, lost momentum and territory?
10
The humanitarian airdrops rank as a wildly impotent and farcical solution and should cause offence to any reasonable person.

In what universe is Kristi Noem qualified to be part of an American presidential administration?

As long as Gerard Butler is available, London will not fall.
9
Must I now give up my as yet unrequited dream of owning my very own private jet?!?
8
When was the last time that American Republican legislators and governors enacted the will of the people, or governed in the people's best interests?
8
Is anyone surprised that Texas police officers overreacted in clearing students from campus encampments? Remember that last week Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) endorsed vigilante action against protesters, even promoting a policy of throwing protesters off bridges, especially if they are impeding and inconveniencing average citizens, 'cause that's how Arkansawyers would handle whiny protesters'. (Cotton also thought that protesters who glue their hands to surfaces should be forcibly removed, which would cost them some skin--a reality that Cotton thought just grand since it would teach them a painful physical lesson.) In pre-Trump times wouldn't a sitting senator face censure for such vile, inciteful, hateful remarks, remarks that encourage potentially lethal violence, oppose the exercise of free speech on American campuses, and put an elected U.S. senator's stamp of approval upon anti-student- protester physical violence.

Marjorie Taylor-Greene, Matt Gaetz, Mike Johnson, etc., have been quite happy to parrot Russian "talking points" without a literal payoff.
7
I find Gorka's accent grating. He has a faux-posh accent and I find the timbre of his voice unpleasant.

Is there any deal that Netanyahu would agree to?
4
So Blinken declares that Sudanese militia have committed acts of genocide, but Israel's genocidal march through Gaza is just peachy with Winken, Blinken and Nod.
4
@katinagonclaves913 With respect, Tommy does indeed have it right if one wishes to defer (honour) to the pronunciation use by adherents of Sikhism (say, "Sick-ism"). The "Seek" and "Seek-ism" likely has its roots in British colonialism. Cheers

Much of the responsibility for the growing nightmare in the Middle East rests with Joe Biden and the fact that his mindset about Israel was locked in decades ago and has stubbornly resisted upgrading, upgrading that would reflect the hard right shift in Israeli politics, the increasingly dehumanizing treatment of Palestinians, the voracious land grabs by settlers greenlighted to visit violence-- even lethal--upon those whose homes and lands they seized. Biden's legacy will forever be tarnished by his obliviousness to the reality of Netanyahu's Israel, and his naive (a generous reading) complicity in the escalating horror...and Blinken is Biden's Rumsfeld, a partisan enabler of Netanyahu.
4
Does America now have a bi-part Chief Executive with two Presidents, not just one?
3
Biden may be "pushing really hard" against Netanyahu, but if America persists in continuing current funding levels to Israel's military and in vetoing U.N. resolutions demanding a ceasefire, then all the "pushing really hard" means nought.
3
@TheFamousMockingbird With respect, have you no regrets--nor changes in positions--from stances that you took four--even two--decades ago? Cheers
3
@Spooky_Academic If confirmed to a cabinetry position in the second Trump administration, Krispy intends to ban all previously employed jargon and replace it with her own Noemclature. 'Fie on all this wokety-woke nonsense,' screeched Krispy, deafly utilising a technique she'd learnt from reading "The Art Of The Squeal."
3
J.D. Vance's wife, Usha Vance, clerked for John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh. How will that play into any high court decision should the 2024 election be contested?
3
I felt momentarily hopeful when Biden said that the (pro-Palestinian) demonstrators outside the convention hall were "right", till he followed it up by saying that innocent people were being hurt "on both sides". "Both sides"?!? Biden still does not get it; he still does not understand the horrifying inequality of the harm rendered to one side versus the other, nor the monstrously disproportionate--and ongoing escalatory--response by Israel to the horrors of October 7th. And Biden's failure to grasp the reality of the genocide in Gaza is a good part of why this slaughterh plows on.
3
Yes, Biden (and Blinken) immediately bought into the Israeli propagandistic narrative concerning the horrors of October 7th, 2023 and the danger presented by Hamas. Going forward, Biden steadfastly supported Netanyahu despite the inarguable--and steadily mounting--evidence that the Netanyahu administration clearly intended to engage in a genocidal campaign in Gaza, and, post-genocide, claim the "cleansed" land as part of a new larger Israel. And for his "feckless" ride-or-die with Netanyahu" policy, Biden's legacy will forever be quite deservedly tarnished...and Biden has no one to blame but himself.

Seb Gorka always comes off as a melodramatic C-list character actor who specializes in portraying verbose, self-impressed, slimy Eastern-European minor criminals.
2
As long as China tariffs don't hurt WalMart's bottom line...politicians will climb on board. Didn't the Trump retaliatory tariffs do more harm than good?
2
What I find most implausible is the notion that Marjorie Trailer-Queen could be correct about anything.
2
The optics are truly bad when the leader of "the world's greatest democracy" excoriates the ICC for citing and seeking to prosecute alleged war criminals.
2
AIPAC ranks as one of the foremost arguments for severely reining in American lobbyists.
2
FLASK904 With respect, one matter has absolutely nought to do with the other and the comparison of one to another-- as well as believing that a gaggle of footie fans represent the entirety of the Irish people-- is an invidious comparison, insulting, specious and repugnant.
2
The complicity of Biden and Blinken in Israel's ongoing genocidal rampage through Gaza, and now Lebanon, will forever cast a long dark shadow over all the positive things that the Biden administration has accomplished to date. Yes there is much guilt to spread around, but Biden's complete inability to comprehend that Israel--particularly under the current Netanyahu administration--no longer resembles the Israel that he (Biden) first became acquainted with decades ago through an heroic mythic narrative and cherrypicked biblical passages.
2
Novara Media (a UK outlet) reported that Israeli officials told the World Central Kitchen organizers that the road they wished to travel upon was safe. The clear implication is that Israeli commanders had foreknowledge that WCK workers would be traveling on that route. And yet the deadly attacks.
2
Do American authorities routinely arrest neo-Nazis and White supremacists who spew antisemitic slurs at rallies? Not to my knowledge. And isn't college/uni meant to be a safe space for free speech, even when some find said speech offensive?
2
Ben definitely should not watch any programme and then take Hannah out to Valentine's day dinner.
2
Pete Hegseth is an idiot-log.
2
Just one more reason to love Norway, and Ireland and Spain. Brava.
2
"The Generals Plan," if enacted, would rank as yet another in a long list of truly horrifying Israeli war crimes.
2
@WilliamStrider-jb7qx With respect, what it connotes from an English Speaker's perspective, yeah? Cheers Cheers
2
And the North Korean Special Forces are entirely untested in real combat.
2
On the subject of humour, I far prefer Kamala Harris's sparkling laughter to Trump's demented ramblings about "the late, great Hannibal Lecter".
2
Re, Mohammed bin Salman: Even "smart guys" can be blinded by terrible hubris.
1
@Ronaldinho1996 Biden risks loses a goodly portion of the American youth vote as a price for having hewed too closely to the demands of Netanyahu's administration and the American Israeli lobby.

@thejsixm2357 With respect, mate, let us respectfully agree to disagree. Cheers
