  1. Is anyone surprised that Texas police officers overreacted in clearing students from campus encampments? Remember that last week Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) endorsed vigilante action against protesters, even promoting a policy of throwing protesters off bridges, especially if they are impeding and inconveniencing average citizens, 'cause that's how Arkansawyers would handle whiny protesters'. (Cotton also thought that protesters who glue their hands to surfaces should be forcibly removed, which would cost them some skin--a reality that Cotton thought just grand since it would teach them a painful physical lesson.) In pre-Trump times wouldn't a sitting senator face censure for such vile, inciteful, hateful remarks, remarks that encourage potentially lethal violence, oppose the exercise of free speech on American campuses, and put an elected U.S. senator's stamp of approval upon anti-student- protester physical violence.
