@ccalthrop6347 Where there has only been one monarch of that name, they don't get a number. e.g. Queen Victoria and Anne, King Stephen and John. If we get another monarch of that name, they retrospectively get "the first" added to their name. So the Tudor monarch was just known as Queen Elizabeth until 1952 when another Queen Elizabeth came to the throne. Then she was 'renamed'' Elizabeth I.

I think "whilst" is very slightly archaic, it's only rarely used these days. But it would have been more commonly used a century ago, so it's probably a good word to use when talking about a historic period.

Even the latest aircraft carriers look modestly sized compared to a decent sized modern cruise ship.

@silverhost9782 Well no. Charles IIIs father was Greek/Danish. Elizabeth IIs mother was Scottish aristocracy. George VIs mother was Mary of Teck. The Tecks had a German title but had lived in the UK for a long time, so she actually didn't have much German blood. George Vs mother was Danish. The last UK monarch to marry a German was Queen Victoria in 1840. So myth busted, they are not very German at all.
