  1. It's absurd to pretend that ships have genders, that is ridiculous anthropomorphisation. Last week I was chatting to a cute little corvette that is preserved in my city and it assured me that it is not female.

Matthew, you may be right, but both of the old ships preserved in my city, the 1868 monitor HMVS Cerberus and the 1941 corvette HMAS Castlemaine strike me as entirely rational and not likely to suffer from gender confusion. So we will have to agree to disagree on this, I maintain that ships don't have genders, even the ones named after people. :)
