I write rather niche histories of the mountains in south eastern Australia and doing interviews with old timers is very hard, I don't want to put words into their mouths but I often still need to push them a little to get them to remember things of interest to me. On occasions people get established facts wrong, for example many years ago an old bloke claimed that he visited a ski lodge in 1933 when I had seen documents showing that work on it hadn't begun until 1934. In cases like that I don't correct them and just let the conversation move on. But sometimes they say something that is entirely new to me and I have to treat that information with a little skepticism as some peoples minds aren't quite as sharp as they once were. In short, don't be too hard on the interviewer, doing oral history interviews is surprisingly difficult.

@petermernagh9991 Oh yes, I agree with you on that one, but I have found that it takes a lot of experience to run a really good historical interview most of the time.
