By the time this was made in 2010 they had lost - David Langton (Richard Bellamy) who died in 1994, Rachel Gurney (Lady Marjorie) who died in 2001, Gordon Jackson (Mr Hudson) who died in 1990, Angela Baddeley (Mrs Bridges) who died in 1976, Patsy Smart (Miss Roberts) who died in 1996, Joan Benham (Lady Prudence) who died in 1981, Raymond Huntley (Sir Geoffrey Dillon) who died in 1990, Gareth Hunt (Fred Norton) who died in 2007. They lost so many of that wonderful original cast.

Remember the original Upstairs Downstairs was made by London Weekend Television for commercial television ITV - this version was made by their arch rivals the BBC, that is why it looked different, also remember in the storyline from the last series in 1975, the house was sold off to be converted into apartments, so restructuring work could have happened

@huwwilson650 Rhys I will say again the lack of research was due to the fact that the original Upstairs Downstairs was made by the commercial network ITV and this relaunched version was BBC produced. The original Upstairs Downstairs was all filmed in London, at London Weekend Television studios originally at Wembley and later from 1972 at their fantastic London Studios complex on the South Bank. The BBC version was all made in Wales. No cross over research at all made.

@huwwilson650 That was planned however she contracted pneumonia about a year after the show ended. Which is why Thomas and Sarah was made instead.

Mr Hudson and his wife Mrs Bridges went to run a boarding house by the seaside, and so retired there with Ruby joining them to help run the house. Rose was working with Lord and Lady Bellamy, but it was perfectly right that she could have decided to leave them in the six year gap between the end of the LWT version and the start of this BBC version. Six years is a long time.

They were not allowed to, as ITV owned the full production rights to Upstairs Downstairs, and this was a BBC produced sequel. BBC had to be careful not to have a full scale 100% copy of the look and feel of the original. ITV only gave them limited space to move in this production.

@johnnohobear8634 Please remember the original Upstairs Downstairs was made by London Weekend Television for ITV, and this sequel version was made by the BBC, so some issues over broadcasting rights might have arisen over the design of the house, which was created by a London Weekend Television designer John Clements in 1970. Also it is spelt Geoffrey and not with a J.

@Rhys Hoffman I don not give a toss what you think. My comment. My opinion. Don't like it, sod off and ignore me then.
