Back in the sixties and seventies it was like that, with Prince Philip not sitting next to her, but rather where Prince Charles was sitting here.

@knightstemplar619 In times before Queen Elizabeth II, monarchs usually sat alone, with their spouse usually seated where Prince Charles is seated. It was only during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II that it changed, but not straight away. In the first decade or so of her reign, Queen Elizabeth sat alone, with Prince Philip to the far right of the throne.

I am glad you enjoyed it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. As a historian, I know a lot about parliament.

The Palace of Westminster in this form is actually fairly new. Opened in the 1850s, as the previous Palace of Westminster burnt down in 1834.

@phulocnguyen5310 The regalia are there, part of our history, and are not going anywhere. They are very old, and are not owned by the monarch. They are state regalia, and she could not sell it, even if she wanted.

Monarchs never retire. The only retirement is death.

Actually usually there was only ever one chair in the main throne area. Look back at State Openings of the 1960s and Prince Philip usually sat farther away from the Queen. Only in the late 70s did his chair be placed next to the Queen.

This was a "dressed down" State Opening, made more simple due to the pandemic and Covid restrictions in place when it happened.

Due to microphone problems we could not hear Black Rod say the usual = "Mr Speaker, The Queen commands this honourable House [pauses to bow to both sides of the House] to attend Her Majesty immediately in the House of Peers".

Skinner lost his seat in the 2019 general election.

Just look at the bloody tape markings on the floor of the House of Commons. When this pandemic is finally over, they are going to have a hard job scraping that off the floor. What a way to ruin a beautiful chamber, which is now 71 years old by October 2021.

Due to Covid restrictions in place back then, this was a "dressed down" state opening.
