Furthermore Ukraine wasn't in Nato, nor was there a path for them to join. Several members of the alliance were opposed to it, the Ukrainian government was unable or unwilling to go through the necessary reforms. Even the Ukrainian population was opposed, prior to 2014 only around 10% of them even wanted to join. Ukraine's chances of joining Nato was effectively zero.

@koiguidenishikigoi4972 Yes zero NATO losses. Civilian volunteers from NATO countries aren't NATO forces.
5
@TrevorCrook-c1s There is zero evidence for your delusions.
5
@TrevorCrook-c1s Nato was there in 2014 in a training role, they withdrew in 2022 after the full scale invasion. You live in a fantasy world.
5
@johnhume4346 Most Ukrainians were in favor of the EU association agreement. After Russia embargoed Ukraine and forced Yanukovich to back out (a violation of the Budapest Memorandum) he was voted out by 100% of parliament, including his own party.
5
@johnhume4346 Finland and Sweden joined because they were pressured by Moscow's aggression, not Washington. You have a warped sense of reality.
5
@johnhume4346 Sweden and Finland were neutral for decades, centuries in Sweden's case. They would have remained so if Russia hadn't began invading and annexing it's neighbors again. The US had very little to do with both joining outside of your delusions.
4
@johnhume4346 His exact words were "What we cannot accept is a condition on a bilateral agreement to have a kind of a possible veto of a third country. This is contrary to all principles of international law." Not whatever revisionist history that exists only in your head.
4
@TrevorCrook-c1s The equipment is designed so that any fool can use. I have access to satellites, anyone with any money can get access to commercial satellites and GPS. What year do you think it is?
4
So why did Russia embargo Ukraine in 2013 (violating the Budapest memorandum) when Ukraine tried to sign the EU association agreement?
4
So why did Russia embargo Ukraine and close the border when they tried to sign the EU association agreement if they had no problem with them joining? (which was a violation of the Budapest Memorandum)
4
@johnhume4346 “Yanukovych made it clear to me that he intends to sign the association agreement." Huh? Yes everybody knows this, Yanukovich did sign the association agreement, and then Russia embargoed them and closed the border strong arming Yanukovich to withdraw. What point do you think you are making right now?
3
@TrevorCrook-c1s The commitments in the Budapest Memorandum are legally binding like the UN Charter, and Russia is part of the UN. Or how any other treaty would be, however with Russia treaties typically aren't worth the paper they are written on. And yes the Budapest memorandum was still in effect when Ukraine tried to sign the EU association agreement, I have no idea why you would think otherwise. Though technically it was 2013 when Russia violated it. I have no idea why you are talking about 2022. "How would closing the border prevent joining EU." This is honestly a completely idiotic question. What sort of economic pressure do you think Ukraine's top trade partner closing the border and embargoing Ukraine would have? Why do you think Yanukovich backed out of the EU association agreement after he signed it?
3
@TrevorCrook-c1s "According to the Americans" Who? Which Americans make this claim? Even if your strange fantasy regarding the Budapest Memorandum was true Russia still violated the Russia-Ukraine friendship treaty.
3
@TrevorCrook-c1s You also still haven't answered why Russia embargoed Ukraine if they were fine with them joining the EU.
3
@TrevorCrook-c1s For starters, because apparently you have reading comprehension issues, Russia violated the Budapest memorandum in 2013 when they embargoed Ukraine, long before your Maidan delusions. Also it wasn't a coup, It would be the first successful coup in human history that ended with the same government it started with. It was a protest movement that started because Yanukovich backed out of the EU association agreement, which led to 100% of parliament voting against him, including his own party. Nobody asked him to flee the country, he did that on his own accord.
3
@TrevorCrook-c1s Yes, I have gps on my phone little buddy. Also any person can gain access to high quality commercial satellites.
3
@johnhume4346 It was Russia who told Ukraine they couldn't trade with Russia when they embargoed them. At no point did the EU say Ukraine couldn't trade with Russia, the EU to this day trades with Russia, come back to reality. There was no path for Ukraine to join, prior to 2014 only around 10% of ukrainians even wanted to join, the government was unwilling and unable to go through the necessary reforms to make them elegible and several members of the alliance were opposed to them joining. Their chances of joining NATO was effectivly zero. Not long before this Russia had considered joining, and Putin himself said he had no problem with Ukraine joining. He said “I am absolutely convinced that Ukraine will not shy away from the processes of expanding interaction with NATO and the Western allies as a whole. Ukraine has its own relations with NATO; there is the Ukraine-NATO Council. At the end of the day the decision on Ukraine joining NATO is to be made by NATO and Ukraine. It is a matter for those two partners.”
3
@johnhume4346 No he didn't, he was opposed to Russia having a veto on Ukraine joining. Which is how bilateral deals work little buddy. At no point did anyone say that Ukraine wouldn't be allowed to trade with Russia, that is something you've invented in your mind.
3
@johnhume4346 Yes Putin said they were fine with Ukraine joining the EU, that doesn't explain why they embargoed them when they tried to sign the EU association agreement. Thanks for helping prove my point. Putin also said he had no problem with Ukraine joining Nato.
3
@operator9858 At one point even Russia considered joining Nato, but that doesn't help your narrative that they are "hostile" somehow.
3
@operator9858 Good job refuting nothing I've said and changing the topic. There was never any agreement regarding Nato expansion, despite your baseless assertions. All Russia's actions has accomplished is expanding Nato, now they have Sweden and Finland in Nato right on their border. Which according to you they wont accept. Putin himself said “I am absolutely convinced that Ukraine will not shy away from the processes of expanding interaction with NATO and the Western allies as a whole. Ukraine has its own relations with NATO; there is the Ukraine-NATO Council. At the end of the day the decision on Ukraine joining NATO is to be made by NATO and Ukraine. It is a matter for those two partners.” So I guess they were fine with Nato on their border at one point, despite your ramblings.
3
@boink800 Because a treaty signed with Russia isn't worth the paper its written on.
2
@operator9858 I don't think they were concerned with Warsaw pact members joining another alliance because they were in the Warsaw pact, and were occupied by large Soviet garrisons. Also Russia can be concerned with whatever it wants, there was at no point any agreement regarding Nato expansion. Gorbachev, his foreign minister and all the diplomats in the room agree. You can pretend you know more than all the people involved if you want, just don't expect anyone to take you seriously.
2
@operator9858 Also we know what the "not one inch east" comment was referring to, it's historical record. In a 9 February 1990 conversation with Mikhail Gorbachev held in Moscow, US Secretary of State James Baker, when the famous "not one inch eastward" comment was made. The concession essentially meant that the western half of the unified Germany would be part of NATO but the eastern half would not. The US National Security Council pointed out that it would be unworkable, and the concession was later amended to state that NATO troops would not be stationed in East Germany. This is historical fact, not whatever fan fiction you've made up in your mind.
2
@operator9858 The "not one inch east" statement was referring to Nato forces in Eastern Germany during it's reunification, to this day there are stil no Nato forces in East germany. It had nothing to do with other countries joining the alliance. Even Gorbachev confirms this.

@TrevorCrook-c1s Yes because Russia invaded Ukraine and annexed Crimea. It may amaze you to learn that invasion and annexation violated the Ukraine Russia friendship treaty. Is this just an act or are you really this clueless?
1
@TrevorCrook-c1s It also may amaze you to learn that Russia saying something and doing something are completely different. Russia has stated multiple times that they are fine with Ukraine joining the EU (and Nato actually) but when the time comes to join they reverse their decision. You still haven't answered why Russia who was supposedly fine with Ukraine joining the EU embargoed them when they tried. The 2022 Istanbul agreement never made it past the negotiation phase, I have no idea why you are bringing it up.
1
@boink800 Probably because they had already broke it nine years earlier when they embargoed Ukraine. And because an agreement with Russia isn't worth the paper its written on.
1
@TrevorCrook-c1s Yes I have GPS on my phone brainiac. Any person can also get access to high quality commercial images.
1
@TrevorCrook-c1s Yes I have GPS on my phone brainwave. You can also access high quality commercial satellites for cash. No amount of personal insults is going to change reality buddy. You don't need to access American spy satellites in order to use their weapons.
1
@TrevorCrook-c1s There is zero evidence for this conspiracy theory. Losses of these systems is also in single digit.
1
@TrevorCrook-c1s Yes, Ukraine existed geographically close to Russia and they wanted to conquer them. Thus the trap was set.
1
Yeah, remember when the US invaded and annexed Cuba and Canada and said they were never real countries. Try using your head.
1
@operator9858 Luckily you have no idea what you are talking about and nobody who matters agrees with you.
1
@operator9858 I'm not running.
1
@operator9858 Good luck, though considering you are crying about the US being "literal cartoon characters" because they broke a treaty that exists only in your mind I won't get my hopes up.
1
@operator9858 What does that have to do with anything I said? Are you ok?
