  2.  @Nick_S0  US won the Afghan war in a couple weeks, there hadn't been an attack on coalition forces in years. Taliban was all in their hidey holes in the other stans. The US wasn't looking to annex them and if after 20 years the ANA couldn't stand on their own feet they never would. Should have left as soon as they clapped Bin Laden tbh.

The US did win its wars in the middle east, it took just over 500 hours to defeat Iraq. and Vietnam is an example that you can win almost every battle and still lose the war. (luckily the vietnamese dont hold a grudge, thanks dudes) At the end of the day this is just whataboutism, which is pretty much what every Russian argument boils down to.

  6. The reason Kharkiv was short staffed is because the Ukrainians announced they would attack at Kherson. And Russia took them at face value. You know, like morons. Then they rolled over the Russians at Kharkiv (including Izium the main supply hub in the area where Ukraine captured an absolute mountain of material). Then they blew the bridges behind the VDV at Kherson and they were forced to tuck tail and scurry away because they couldn't be supplied. Absolute clownshow.

I thought the 'Vuhledar wasn't a real offensive so it's ok that we throw away 100+ armored vehicles for no gain.' would be the dumbest thing I read in this thread, but it's got to be 'we aren't trying to win for political reasons.' Absolute clownshow.

  12.  @markfp9705  We're over a year in and Russia still hasn't taken the Donbas, you can drive there from Moscow in a few hours. this is humiliating for the self proclaimed world #2 army no matter how you try to spin it. And now Russia is dusting off the T-54/55's supported by scooby doo vans. Pretty scary. The US conquered Iraq in just over 500 hours and that's a country on the other side of the world, and the Iraqi army was larger then the Ukrainian one. Imagine if 14 months into the war the US was digging trenches 30 miles into Iraq and resurrecting the M26 Pershing.

For starters they can't even manufacture tanks (see T-14) All they can do is refurbish old tanks like T-72 and now embarrasingly enough T-62's and T-54/55's. And those require western components. The Soviet expertise is long gone and Russia is a pale shadow of the USSR.

I experience second hand embarrassment when they act like rivals to the US, it would be like the Bhutan or someplace like that acting like Chinas rival.

  17.  @Nick_S0  The Soviets objective was to keep their puppet regime in power, they were defeated by the mujahedeen. The US went to dismantle Al Qaeda and get Bin Laden. Mission accomplished.
