  1. Appreciated the reference to a good set of winter tires as an alternative to AWD in FWD and FWD-biased AWD systems. With the weight of an engine over the drive wheels in a relatively small, light vehicle FWD performs admirably in messy winter conditions in almost all situations. There are, of course, advantages for AWD and 4WD systems in larger, heavier vehicles and in truly challenging conditions but for the vast majority of drivers FWD functions well, saves fuel, and doesn't incur the additional penalty of the equivalent of an NFL linebacker sitting in the back seat.
