@jackdubz4247 I'm not sure we have managed. Floods in particular cause hundreds of millions of pounds worth of damage each year. An alert system will go some way towards helping that.

floods and fires are more likely emergencies.

@Afc1987 Yes. They'd only alert the people in the vicinity of the fire or flood.

The idea is that the alert will be able to provide life-saving information.

Unlikely - it's been in development and testing for 10 years.

We had wildfires last year. They're much more likely these days due to climate change.

It's been all over the news for a month...

Probably coincidence yes. Development and testing of the system began a decade ago.

The vast majority of people have them on. If there's a flood, I wouldn't want to be the only person not receiving information about it.

It would have been very useful during floods and fires.

@HouseOldSkoolRaver I suspect I've misunderstood the question, because surely the answer is "all of them." Every flood previously we've had to guess at what to do until emergency workers arrive. Information about safe areas etc will be made available for the first time via the emergency alert system.

What's your plan if there's an emergency?

@Verdent777 Ok, but what's your plan if there's an emergency?
