Demanding a 30% pay rise, at a time when ordinary people are struggling, is reprehensible.

@zaherulhuda5447 They should get back to work, on their already substantial wages.

@stevec6427 Lots of deception in this comment. The starting salary is less than £40k, but the average salary is £50k, which is far more than the majority of people will ever earn. Becoming a doctor doesn't require any debt at all. This is falsely suggesting that a student loan is debt - it isn't. This is just another case of the already rich trying to get even richer. Don't fall for it.

But their pay rises are always well above inflation. Doctors enjoy 10% pay rises for the first few years. Inflation has not eroded their pay.

@vladipn They earn far, far more than the majority of people - it's deceptive to give a "per hour" wage when they are salaried, not freelance.

@ColaScan This is false. The 30% figure is of individual brackets on the pay scale (which junior doctors move up automatically), and uses the discredited RPI measure of inflation. It also compares with 2008, deliberately because that's right before the credit crisis. Any individual junior doctor in 2008 would likely be earning six figures today as a consultant.

@AB1111_ This is deeply misleading - Any doctor earning £30k in 2006 would be on six figures today. No doctor has had a pay cut.

@ColaScan Doctors don't have any fees. This isn't the US. They do have good grades and a good degree. That's precisely why they earn so much already. They don't need to earn any more.

@chew5900 I don't think that's true. I think they earn more primarily because of the exclusivity of the profession.
