Read a book. If you are worried about democracy how come you aren’t upset that over three years ago we voted to leave the EU and we still haven’t been allowed to!

Debate what exactly? They said they would implement the result of the referendum. They all got elected on manifestos stating that. They all voted for the withdrawal act. But still over three years later we still haven’t left! If Britain is a democracy it has to honour the referendum. Debate is over. Implement Brexit.

CreeperLadMC I agree!!! We voted to leave 1162 days ago. IF the UK is a democracy then why are we still in the EU?
6
Remainers have ignored the will of the people for over three years now. Clean Brexit is democracy.

Bruce Bartup the phrase “No Deal Brexit” wasn’t used before the referendum! As for the £350 on a bus for the NHS.....it was based on us leaving the EU. Well have we left the EU ? Have we stopped paying them £350 million a week? No. Then enough with that childish argument.

This is great news. Less opportunity for MPs to overturn the referendum result. They have thwarted the democrats will of the people for over three years. Nobody voted for a “Deal” we voted to leave.

Francisco C. Parliament voted to give us a referendum. We voted to leave. They voted for the withdrawal act promising that we would leave on the 31st March. They were elected on manifestos that promised they would honour the referendum result. It’s August 28th 2019. We voted to leave 1162 days ago. IF the UK is a democracy then why are we still in the EU?

Shark Cat we could have left the EU the day after the referendum. WTO terms on day one. Trade would have continued and this would be ancient history now.

stephenw181057 We voted to leave 1162 days ago. It does seem like time isn’t the problem ;-)

Shariq Torres you don’t even know that May was a remainer. Everyone else does but you. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/10/10/theresa-may-refuses-say-would-vote-leave-brexit-referendum-held/

Francisco C. This stunt happens all the time! If you are so invested in democracy then again I ask you where is your outrage that we haven’t left the EU after 1162 days?
1
Francisco C. This is being falsely reported. This happens all the time. In this instance only 4 days of parliamentary time will he lost 4 days! They have had 1162! They are the ones who are trying to destroy democracy not the 17.4 million that voted to leave.
1
Francisco C. Parliament is losing a few days of time. If you think that’s an abuse of parliament then where is your outrage that we are still in the EU 1162 days after voting to leave?

Bruce Bartup waffle isn’t an argument. Be precise if you want to make a point.

Pras Lye the Lisbon treaty/EU constitution is not worth the paper it’s printed on. It was rejected by the few Europeans that were allowed a vote on it. Brown signed it alone in a dark room. We could have left the EU 1161 days ago. No parliament can bind another. We had elections since brown signed it. We don’t need to honour it. Besides the only act of parliament that is current law on Brexit is the withdrawal act which states we are leaving on the 31st
1
Shariq Torres may is a remainder. Apart from your insult do you have a point?
1
Emanuele Betti you don’t understand parliament. No parliament can bind another. The Lisbon treaty could be ignored. It’s non binding in parliamentary terms. The problems associated with leaving are ours to solve and they aren’t as significant as many on the remain side would have you believe.
1
Bruce Bartup parliament is sovereign. No parliament can bind another. If you weren’t aware of that you are now.
1
Bruce Bartup of course we have treaties, agreements, etc. If we were to constantly break them we would only hurt our trustworthiness with allies. However the point stands no parliament can bind another. That’s very important as elections matter as opinion changes. Remember the EU constitution is the Lisbon treaty. Three countries were allowed to vote on it and they all rejected it. So they rebranded it to allow them to call it a treaty thus not requiring voter approval. Brown signed it alone as it was so contentious and he didn’t want any fanfare. Lisbon is a joke as far as treaties goes. It was rejected. An unelected PM signed it and it’s non binding as far as parliament goes.

Bruce Bartup I don’t think Lisbon carries any real weight for the reasons I’ve explained. It was a run around the Democratic will of everyone in the EU. It’s not in the same class as NATO for example. We could have ignored easily in my opinion as it was a piece of crap to begin with. So abiding by article 50 etc. is all irrelevant to me as it’s based on a run around democracy. I’m a big believer in a strong armed forces. I don’t see the EU as a help in that area I’d argue the opposite. The French will never come to the defense of us. The Dutch will never defend Germany etc. there is no democracy in Europe as there is no European DEMOS (people) I’ve lived in Germany for 11 years and I’ve been to most countries in Europe. I love it. I recognize we are different and any attempt to reconcile us as s people must be democratic. The EU behaves like a dictatorship or a democracy. Every single referenda allowed in Europe has been ignored or overturned.

Bruce Bartup I see China and Iran as a much bigger threat than Russia. I grew up in Berlin with 400,000 East Germans next door with a million Russians behind them. I know they are dangerous but Europe doesn’t even recognize China as a threat or Iran. Russia is a menace but no longer anything like what it was.
1
Bruce Bartup NATO not the EU defeated the USSR The EUs military ambitions have only weakened NATO most NATO members don’t even meet the minimum 2% particularly Germany. Another divisive military command structure is ludicrous if you think Russia is the threat. Germany happily linking its gas requirements to Russian pipelines is a real geopolitical threat. How can the powerhouse of the EU be effective against Russia if it refuses to pay for its own defense and allows its energy to be controlled by Putin? That makes no sense. Netanyahu recently said of Iran that Europe will only wake up to the threat when nukes land in Germany. Also China is buying up Iceland, Italy and Spain with debt colonialism. Chinese 5g is breaking up the 5eyes echelon network the most successful western intelligence sharing network for 70 years. China is pulling US resources east and this it is a threat unless the Europeans suddenly decide that they want to pay for their own defense. The UK had 42 frigates in 1982 and now has 13. We have to pay for our defense if we don’t want to be friends with the US anymore. May invited China into our 5g telecoms market. If that happens we will lose our place in echelon. Defense against Russia is needed yes but the EU can’t agree on anything. Even their own parliament!
1
Bruce Bartup the Europeans aren’t close allies at all. We spy on the French and Germans and they spy on us. We don’t even share our intelligence with them. That’s why we are allies with the other members of the 5 eyes. Germany leads the EU and is linking its energy to Russia. Its refusal to pay for its defense is a disgrace. I’m confused that despite all these facts you think the EU is going to unify its defense! They literally couldn’t agree on where its own parliament would be so they built two!!! And move once a month in between. The Americans aren’t going home and Europe isn’t unified. Your wishful thinking is a very enthusiastic but if I’m to be polite unrealistic. The EU is an undemocratic club of elites that has been failing for decades. Britain is getting off the titanic if Boris allows us to and thank heavens for that. Either way we disagree. :-) I do enjoy polite conversation though so thank you. Not enough of it on the tinternet.
1
Bruce Bartup how do you know that the tories won’t increase NHS spending by £350 million when we leave the EU? Are you clairvoyant?
