  1. If not for catholics there would be no Christianity in the west. You would still follow the pagan cults of Rome and the provincial cults, and germanic pagan religions.

  2. cheatmongul More like it was a translation 'from' the Roman Catholic bible. Rather than 'to'. Who do you think kept Christianity alive and expanding when the western empire fell in 470's AD? It was the Catholic church. And yes some of their customs may seem a bit pagan at times, like the icons and cult of saints, but it was the only way they could appeal for converts. Otherwise most europeans would be worshiping roman or celt or germanic gods today. I mainly refer to the time of 500AD to 1300AD.
