I think South Koreans in South Korea feeling animosity and hatred towards the Japanese for never formally apologizing is warranted.
But I feel like younger South Koreans who are making this a deal are doing it just for the sake of making a deal and feeling like they're part of something.
It is bad, don't get me wrong.
But there are better ways to go about dealing with this instead of just commenting online and yelling about how apparently angry they are about this when this whole comfort woman atrocity was something that happened decades ago in a very different time in the world.
Also, the important thing to realize is that it's the Japanese government from decades ago that did this and not Japan as a nation or everyday Japanese people.
So people in South Korea shouldn't just embargo or say that they won't buy, eat, etc anything that has to do with Japan.
That's just being silly.
People in South Korea, and even the South Korean government should regularly ask about this to the Japanese government, hold meetings, talk, be civil and reasonable, don't resort to insults and violence....
It's also important to not dwell too much in the past and fight over these historical events.
Yes Japan often alters their history textbooks and teaches different things to the kids and they grow up learning a different history. But history is often told from the perspective of the winners so it's actually important to learn the history from both sides to gain a more true perspective in history.
However, for the sake of making peaceful amends, I think that the new emperor of Japan should do better with this and make a formal apology since the Prime Minister Abe clearly shows no intention of doing such thing and always trying to shrug it off and saying that it is unfortunate and other similar excuses.
Getting upset that a KPop star said these things is not the right course of action to resolving or improving the situation. It's just pushing the toxic narrative and making more people react negatively and not beneficial to this situation.
