  2.  @Ar1AnX1x  Well, the US only destroyed Iran's fleet with Operation Praying Mantis because Saddam had successfully baited Iran into attacking the Strait of Hormuz. Being the defender of freedom of navigation, this meant the US had to directly intervene in the war against Iran. Up until then, Iraq was on the back foot of the war, so if they had not fallen for the bait, Iran was set to win the war.
