  1. 1. Ukraine considers every square centimeter of its sovereign terrain significant. 2. Soledar and Bakhmut have been less strategic since the miserable failures of the Ruzzians to cross the Siverskyi Donets River in the area of of Dronivka, Bilohorivka, and Serebryanka back in May. 3. Bakhmut is still of local significance due to its place on the road net, particularly in the direction of Kramatorsk and Slovyansk. 4. The principle goal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been to stop further advances on its territory while destroying the invader's manpower, equipment and morale until Spring, when another significant counteroffensive is expected. 5. There has been no report of large numbers of Ukrainians killed in Soledar. There has been an unconfirmed report by Wagner that Soledar is captured save for 500 Ukrainian soldiers that are surrounded. The Ruzzian government itself disputes this claim. Ukraine has broadcast video of their troops fighting in Soledar in the last few hours. They categorically refute the capture of Soledar by any Ruzzian force.

  4. IF, and I don't believe it is true, but IF the Ruzzians get Soledar, so what? They will have captured the burned out husk of a town that had no more than 10,000 inhabitants. They will have captured far the lesser and far the easier of the two towns they have been insanely attacking since June? July? Something like that. How many troops have they lost. What have they really gained? The Ukrainians are exacting their pound(s) of flesh for the Ruzzians' stupidity. There are victories and there are Pyrrhic victories and then there might be Soledar. "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" Mark 8: 36-37. How many convicts and mobiks died for the shattered remnants of Soledar?

  11.  @markward3981  Even the Russian MOD disputes the story that Soledar has fallen. Why it is holding out is unknown. Whether it is cut off is only alleged. If Soledar is as destroyed as it looks on TV, Ukraine should abandon its ruins, let the Wagners occupy it, and shell it into dust after they are all in the killing zone.

  12. Well, the Ukrainians are not willing to murder the civilians left in Soledar to stop the orcs from taking a NOW worthless town. They may have been getting them out as well as they can and that operation may be ongoing. Also HIMARS is not designed for that kind of saturation bombardment. Massed howitzers would work better. HIMARS is a precise strike kind of weapon. It hits that one thing the enemy can ill-afford to lose and destroys it. Massing HIMARS would rob it of the stealth that has kept the Ruzzians from finding it.
