  1. Often ships are built too small for what they're later asked to do, or you get left with a ship that's out of date. I suspect that alot of the development that went into the Zumwalt project will be used in the next generation of ships, similar to the Seawolf class and the Virginia Class. The knowledge and skills from the development of these ships systems doesn't go away and with a few years for technology to generally get better and cheaper. The other pros and cons are how close your ship needs to get to the enemy - as we've found in Ukraine bringing ships close to a hostile shore is dangerous.I wonder if they could get BAe/Locheed martin to produce some dumb 155mm shells for the Zuamwalt - that fit the guns but aren't GPS guided etc.

  2. You have to say that the Arleigh Burke class was a great example of doing a dd programme right (apart from missing the helicopter off the flight 1s) they've proven to be fantastic ships and the design still looks great in 2023...
