Sealift is an interesting concept though, yes China can "only" drop more than 25000 troops by an amphibious invasion, ignoring air supply. But once you've taken a Port you can bring in conventional ships (of which China has plenty) similar to the UK in the Falklands - you do need to establish Air and Sea Control properly. You can also cover them with Phallanx equivalents. The US Navy (or more accurately USNS is pretty much unique in maintaing a large amount of "civilian" ships for mititary purposes - most countries just charter civilian ships as required. All in all though looking at Ukraine if Taiwan could do something similar and I agree that it's possible China's military does have the same issues with its effectiveness being undermined by nepotism/corruption but it would be rash to rely on it. And lets face it even western militaries are not always full meritocracies. The effort and comitment put into political indoctrination can help with unit cohesion but it also leads to large waste of resources.

@gigacanno750 Missile problem is a two way street - yes Taiwan can missile chinas ships but China can also cut Taiwan off from any resupply....

@davidgreen5994 obviously you'd take the high ground yourselves first to secure the port then pound anyone trying to retake it
