  2. I live in Michigan, USA. Many men grow beards for the winter deer hunting season only, they claim it keeps their face warm. Our local police department hosts an annual "board contest", to see who can grow the "best beard fastest", and it raises money for charity. The rural Amish community follows the rule that unmarried men must be clean shaven, and married men must have a beard.
