  3. Russia never intended to take the whole of Ukraine. If they hold on to the eastern Russian majority provinces,they will have achieved their goal. Retreating is a big part of Russian war doctrine, 1 of the 2 methods they employ for land war. The other is to stand in place and never give ground. They used both against both Napoleon and the Nazis. They retreated to suck them in and then fought a hard defensive war until they turned the tide. People need to take this all with a grain of salt, there are many battles in a war. Only time will tell if there has been any real and lasting Ukrainian success. In a war of attrition, Ukraine cannot possibly win.

  6. It's part of Russian military doctrine, look it up. It is one the 2 main methods they use to fight a ground war. It is what they did to both Napoleon and Hitler.

  7. I take this with a grain of salt. Western media is nothing but lies and propaganda. Russia never intended to take over the whole Ukraine, just the eastern provinces. They didn't set out with nearly enough troops to take the country. This is one battle, in a war. Russia has more people, more resources, and in a war of attrition they will win. Seems like lots of people are forgetting the lessons of Napoleon's defeat and the Nazis defeat. And the Nazis were kicking a hell of a lot more a$$ than the Ukrainians. Only time will tell.

  9.  @chriser555  Oh yes they could have. They just restricted their ROE. If they had no restrictions, the countries would have been crushed and denuded of their population. Also, the Ukraine isnt' Vietnam or Afghanistan. The point was not to win, but occupy. The MIC didn't want victory, that would end their profits. What the US wanted was to stay there long enough to permanently inject western culture into Vietnam. As well as lots of American DNA. A lesson as old as Rome, and it was very successful.
