@romansternberg5696 sadly, you are mistaken. If you tell children about the Holocaust without the censorship of making the information age specific then you are abusing those children and can cause PTSD. This is why teachers are trained to differentiate for age groups. There will always be people drawn to evil actions.

@dfmrcv862 yes they need to know this and about other atrocities as well, but they need to understand it and not be traumatised by it. How do you get s child to understand the industrial murder of every inhabitant of a city the size of London (currently around 8.9 million inhabitants)? Especially if they have no concept of death. We don't teach quantum physics I school, but we do teach that atoms behave like hard balls and that electrons orbit their nuclei in set orbits when neither description is true but do allow concepts like pressure and chemical reactions to be explained. Simplifications are a form of censorship, but only to allow concepts to be built up to their full complexity.

@romansternberg5696 that's correct, but it doesn't make it right that you sit a bunch of kids down and give them tbe unexpurgated facts either. It won't help then to understand the evil that men do or to contextualise the evils of, in this case, the nazi regime. Can you get your head around the death of everyone in a city the size of London (about 8.9 million people)? Could a child with no conception of death do that? Because that's what you're going to be doing. The Holocaust and all the other atrocities heed yo ve taught in the same way you eat an elephant.

@dfmrcv862 there are many forms of censorship but you're not thinking. You've heard the word censorship and had a Pavlovian reaction to it, instead of thinking about what it means. One form is the gradual introduction of a topic in easily understandable chunks. You censor out the harder bits until your audience is csoanke of understanding them, which to use an analogy is why you don't get classes in quantum physics in a primary school. THIS IS CENSORDHIP IN ACTION ON A DAILY BASIS. Would you let a class of kids watch potm? No, me neuther then we've just practiced censorship.

@meeeka children are a group within society and as with every other grouping they show a wide range of ability to absorb and assimilate knowledge, just ask anyone who has trained to be a teacher. There is no such thing as a typical child, nor is there average human, and so you have address all concerns to the entire group or a subset of that group. Whilst some child will be able to deal with topics as difficult as the Holocaust and other such outrages others will not and so you have to start with the simplest explanations and work up, ie you censor the topic to the bare essentials and then add to those foundations.

@KopitioBozynski I'm sorry for your loss, but lots of people including me (an eighteen month old baen my that would have been my great-uncle killed in the bombing of a industrial town in the north-eastern England, lost people during the WW1),was and infamous situations in history. I6m not saying se can't teach about episodes like the Holocaust but that you need to approach the matter with a degree of self-censorship. The internet is no different to any other media, it has to be used responsibly and is responsible for its content. YT is a private forum and thus it is exempt from the freedom of speech rules, ax confirmed by a court ruling.

@KopitioBozynski censorship is like money neither good nor bad in itself. It is how it is used that make it good or bad. Cinema and TV age restrictions are a form of censorship, they allow people the choice of what to view and restrict children from seeing images that they might find disturbing, such as graphic violence. I'm advocating that form of censorship, which includes discussion of the Holocaust and other similar topics in age specific ways as we already do with film and TV. I'm not for the banning of the teaching about these difficult topics or lying about them. However, education has been described as lies to children because it presents simplifications of reality, for example to structure of the atom that chemistry teachers use is not the same as that used by physics teachers, but both are true for a specific value of true and are at the same time censored version of the truth.

@RomanHistoryFan476AD in many countries, like in the UK, teachers are paid by the state which also sets the curriculum so it all gets linked. Censorship starts with the self and finishes with the state.

@RomanHistoryFan476AD I'd only want that for the maturest of children. Those about to go off to University. The rest get censored versions. The latest episode of the Franco-Prussian War went into fairly graphic details of injuries sustained during the fighting, and they always complaining about age restrictions.

@MikeHunt-zy3cn yes, the age if the person viewing the material. The same is true of TV channels as this private forum. Yes, You Tube is a private forum with it's own rules of what us acceptable for viewers and presenters which means if we want to use this forum we have to obey their rules. The same is true for film makers and TV channels, they need to ensure that if they want the widest possible viewership they have to present a sanitised version of events or face restrictions on viewership. The difference between films, TV channels and You Tube is the organisations enforcing the rules. There are only 2 options on You Tube - obey their rules or find another forum.
