It is also a careful game to play. If all this was done immediatly things could have ended very differently. When you push only a little further every time, you take away the reasonable reason for escalation. It is after all just marginally worse then what happened last time which makes it harder to have a much more agressive reaction then last time. And indeed, you also undermine the authority the one making the threats has more and more every time. But this is what the americans shine at. They are masters at this game.

Planes will be much more important at this point. Tanks are available in enough numbers already in europe. Fighter jets like the f16 and f18 will be the next discussion the comming month. The more that offer their planes the easier negotiation in ramstein will become next time. 👍

Exactly. Nothing is what it seems in international diplomacy 👍

Doubling down is always the solution lol.

All the green stuff is what they claimed back already before they had to consolidate their advance, build new logistic chains, resuply and regroup their forces and let them rest and recover. This takes months before you are ready for a big new offensive again. In response russia has been on the advance and ukraine has been defending and they went nowhere. Capturing a handfull of settlements. Ukraine is doing extremely well. This isn't call of duty where you can just keep going forward. Things move in waves.

This whole thing will be over soon. Things are accelerating now, the balance will keep shifting to ukraine going forward.

Yeah, some of the phonecals are horifying, talking about what they did to ukrainians.

This war will end when russia retreats from ukranian territory. Which is much closer then you might imagine at the moment. This could easilly be over this summer.

@rightside1911 this isn't early 20th century anymore. Russia might want to turn this into a war of atricion, but in the end they are not going to be allowed to. Ukraine just needs to hold on until the things that are needed to change this are ready. Training of ukranian forces mostly.

Do you need an account for patreon? Wanted to check it out but it won't let me.

@ChrisBeardcore those are the last pieces to the puzzle in creating air superiority over the battlefield and enabling ukraine to freely bomb the hell out of every russian position of value behind the front lines with JDAM's for a couple of weeks before sending the tanks and ifv's in to mop up what's left. That is nato doctrine warfare, it is what it excels at, can support and what the equipment was designed for. So ofcourse that is the environment they will create for themselves. And they almost put all the pieces into place to be able to control the war completely going forward. This spring everything wil change.

@icecold9511 you never know what can happen in such a moment. If the people around putin panicked and the millitary made a coup for russian control, things can escalate quickly. Always have to concider the worst case scenario.

@Fackeldackel if they just run a controlled retreat and hand over territory to russia in order to save resources and people for now. Let russia over extend and push their their supply systems to their limits. they can simply take it all back and use the momentum to push russia out completely later this year when they have air superiority over the battlefield. It is amazing what they have done in bakmut, a heroic defense every day. But at what price, we will not know for a long while i imagine.

@icecold9511 they did not cave did they? They made a realistic risk assesment and operated withing what they concidered a safe margin without forcing their opponent into a situation where they no longer have an option to back out of their threat. Executed perfectly in my view.

@Fackeldackel cities can be rebuild. Death is permanent. Ukraine needs f16s first before doing anything else.

@TheLostplanet99 sanctions are a long term tool. It will slowly strangle an economy. It forces a country to maintain and keep old equipment going, draining resources and put it behind technologically as time passes. They early hit is only part of it. Most of it can be worked around usually or be solved with alternative solutions. Still disrupts things in the short term and forces diversion of resources to deal with the fallout. But the big damage is done long term as an economy keeps bleeding.

@TheLostplanet99 sure. Putin spent a lot of time and money decensitising the population from political affairs. Must just don't care as long as they don't bother them to much. That is also why mobilasation is such a hot topic and why it is called a millitary operatiin. These are the things that could stir up a riot. People won't care until you start taking away their sons and fathers for no aparent reason. Sanctions will have a much bigger influence in the russian leadership. It will create tention, lower peoples dedication to putin and grow a more hostile environment in general. Not enough to kick him out ofcourse, but it does chip away at stability which will make future setbacks have a bigger impact then they would have had otherwise. There is no silver bullit other then assasination or invasion. For the rest it's just increasing preasure constantly one step at a time.
