There was a time in the not to distant past where in certain places of the country all you had to do was make up any claim about a member of a certain ethnic group and you would be able to find a jury to convict because of their prejudice. So in NYC you can make any claim and if the other side denies it the other side is guilty of defamation. The claimer doesn't have to prove the claim
