The problems for the Russians is the Ukrainian always have the option of transitioning to an insurgency and they have showed themselves to be tough skilled fighters. They could very easily kill the Russians by a thousand cuts and the reality is if the Russians can't break the will of the Ukrainian people to resist they're going to lose this war

@atomic0914 Chechnya is a smaller country and they didn't have the weapons or support that a Ukrainian insurgency will have. The Ukrainian will be fighting any insurgency over a large landmass and they will be well supplied and there won't be any fixed positions that the Russians can concentrate their artillery fire on. Russians we'll just keep dying every day no matter what they do to try and stop it happening and the war will drag-on for months into years and in the end the Russian people will tire of it and demand a withdrawal. The Ukrainian fighting man has shown himself to be a very brave tough opponent and also very skilled intelligent and disciplined and the insurgency will be bigger and better equipped than the one that defeated the Russians in Afghanistan. The Ukrainian people simply don't want to be ruled by Russia and unless the Russians can break the Ukrainian people's will to resist Russia is going to be defeated.

@Lomnjac007 a document from the Russian ministry of finance in late August listed the Russian dead as 48,749 and it said they would need funds to pay families in the future because up to that point in the war they had been suffering 8000 dead a month
