  1. I wondered the same thing. Only reason I can see is that life has always been meager for the majority of their people, will always be meager given the track Putin has put them on, but at least they could once say they were a great world power as they ate their borscht.

  5. Which is surprising when you consider the vast reserves of oil they have. Why aren't their citizens living for free like the Saudi's? They make Saudi Arabia look like the age of enlightenment.
