The USSR lent big help to Vietnam too, but that's real help because it didn't ask for anything in return. China on the other hand, wanted Vietnam to become its vassal state, take Vietnam's sea and islands in return without disclosing it in the first place, so it's actually a scam, not a help.

Everybody gets help from somebody in wars. The US got big help from France to kick Britain out in their Revolutionary War. China got big help from both the USSR and US to kick Japan out in the Sino-Japanese War. In fact, the USSR and US directly defeated Japan for China! The CCP also got help from the USSR in the Chinese Civil War. So you should go tell the US that Britain only lost the Revolutionary War to France, tell China that Japan only lost to the USSR and the US in the Sino-Japanese War, Kuomintang only lost to the USSR too?! LOL!

What makes you think Vietnam forget that? Do you forget the USSR and US' help in the Sino-Japanese War, and Chinese Civil War?!

For starters, China's 'help' was a mean to coerce Vietnam to become its vassal state, so it's not purely a 'help'. Second, whatever China's help was, it's all taken back or destroyed by China through its treacherous actions and out right hostilities against Vietnam after it got into bed with the US in 1972. So, it's not Viets have forgot China's help, but there wasn't actually any help at all because China has done more harm than good to Vietnam at the end! China still owes Vietnam the islands it robbed from Vietnam in 1974 and 1988.

Everybody gets help from somebody. The US got big help from France in it independence war against Britain. China got big help from both the USSR and the US against the Japanese too. It's just a matter of common interests in international relations, one of the most basic things.

@mottscottison6943 You probably get your those two-bit BS from the Chinese propaganda machine. There were no skirmishes between Vietnam and Laos. Laos was on Vietnam's side in the fight against the murderous Khmer Rouge regime. As for Cambodia, the Khmer Rouge which was backed and encouraged by China, attacked Vietnam FIRST across the border and massacred Viet villagers there right after it took over Cambodia in Arpril 1975. For the next 3 years, all requests for talk from Vietnam had always been turned down by it. Hunsen, the Cambodian prime minister now and was a low level cadre of the Khmer Rouge at the time, fled to Vietnam in 1977 after he witnessed its barbarism against its own people, the Chinese and Vietnamese there, and asked for help. There's no other way around, Vietnam had to mount an offensive to depose the Khmer Rouge and stop the genocide in December 1978. The Khmer Rouge was deposed quickly but its remnants fled to the Thal-Cambodian border and hid there. Vietnam followed suit and tried to get them there but the US ordered Thailand to give them refuge inside its border. The US and China at that time were in bed against the Soviet Union. The US just recognized the Chinese mainland government as the sole government of China, severed diplomatic tie with Taiwan as a country and recognized 'one China policy' of China in January 1979, so they were very close. The US, still very much butt0hurt from its loss in the Vietnam War, found a chance to get back at Vietnam; China, also very butt0hurt because Vietnam didn't want to become its vassal state, decided to gang up against Vietnam to relieve their petty pain. That's why the US ordered its dog, Thailand, to house the Khmer Rouge. Diplomatically, China, the US and another US' dog, Singapore, had supported the seat of the Khmer Rouge at the UN for the next 10 years. Militarily, The US and China funded, fed, and armed the Khmer Rouge forces to continue to fight from Thailand. The UK's SAS provided training. Singapore acted as the middle man to transfer the weapons and money to them to hide its master's dirty deeds from the world. Without completely destroying Khmer Rouge forces, Vietnam forces couldn't go home because they might come back and every previous efforts and loss of lives would be wasted, so Vietnam had to cross the Thai-Cambodian border to wipe them out. So that's the reason Vietnam crossed that border. On its part, China tried to stab Vietnam in the back at its border with Vietnam in hope to scare Vietnam to pull out of Cambodia. It also tried to impress the US, its new evil friend with an evil act, and to prove that it's really on the US side against the USSR and Vietnam. Not only China failed to scare Vietnam, it also got 20,000 dead in just THREE WEEKS for attacking Vietnam. For comparison, the US lost 55,000 in its entire involvement in the Vietnam War which lasted 13 years! Not only China failed to 'teach' Vietnam a lesson, it also re-learn the same old lesson that it can't scare Vietnam and would pay a very heavy price if it tries to 'teach' Vietnam! So learn about what really happened. China-US was the sadistic evil force here. To have a chance to satisfy their petty grudges against Vietnam, they didn't give a f about the millions Cambodians died under the hand of the Khmer Rouge. Heck China didn't even give a f about the Chinese-Cambodians murdered by it and the 20,000 Chinese dead troops at the Viet border too! LOL!

When Vietnam refused, China got mad and used Pol Pot to get back at Vietnam. After he was deposed by Vietnam, China jumped in directly backstabbing Vietnam at the shared border and islands in the SCS. China also had got into bed with the US to support Pol Pot diplomatically at the UN, housed, fed, and armed remnants of the Khmer Rouge hiding in Thailand to fight for ten years. China has always been a local bully, land grabber, and a petty neighbor throughout history. It has never been noble like you've been taught! LOL!

You said Vietnam attacked China FIRST, and Vietnam wanted to take Laos and Cambodia for itself, so that's a lie and propaganda! Nobody, even China, has PROOF for that ridiculous accusation! The truth is the Khmer Rouge massacred Vietnamese, Cambodia, and even Chinese in Cambodia FIRST. They also crossed the border into Vietnam and massacred tens of thousands Viets too, so Vietnam had to respond and depose Pol Pot to stop all that. China wanted to rescue its tool so it attacked Vietnam. Vietnam and other independent sources have plenty of evidence supporting that story. You're the one who must open your eyes and ears here.

@kitschchauvinismus_9394 According to you, China invaded Korea because there's a war in Korea; the US bombed ONE town in China killing a few people and a GUESS that it might invade China after Korea. In Vietnam/Cambodia's case, there were a genocide going on in Cambodia killing millions of Cambodians, hundreds thousands of Viets and Chinese. The Khmer Rouge had crossed over the border with Vietnam killing thousands of villagers for over 3 years 1975/78. It didn't kill just a few people like the US did to China! It had also actually invaded and occupied Viet territories. It wasn't just a GUESS like in China's case. And you actually think China has better justification?! LMAO!

@karllarsen8797 The 11 dash line first appeared in 1935 under the Kuomintang rule, the CCP turns it into the 9 dash line, so it was originally a capitalist China's idea! But if you go deeper, this actually isn't a capitalist or communist problem but a Chinese problem because as tiny as Taiwan (Republic of China) is, it continues to have the same ridiculous claim like China's.

@hylimm The US and USSR helped the whole China, not just the nationalists. The US put an embargo on Japan and so made Japan divert it forces to start a war with it in 1941, dropped the A-bomb on Japan. The USSR defeated the Kwantung Army in Manchuria. They directly won the War in China's North East and thus helped China regain its territories there. Without them China wouldn't have the map today. The USSR also helped China build its industrial base, transferred technologies, sent economic aid. But at the end China got in bed with the US in 1972 and back-stabbed both the USSR and Vietnam. After that, China turned to the US for help building its economy too. Now, it also doesn't wanna listen to the US. Tell it to yourself, why do you Chinese forget all the help they gave you?!

You must agree with me that the vast majority of Chinese hate Vietnam to the bone for no apparent reason right? So how can Viets entrust their lives to China?! 2. Because of that, even if the government chooses to buy, there's no guarantee the people are gonna take it, so the money's gonna be wasted. Are you ready to buy something knowing for sure that you're gonna throw them away the next day?! 3. If Vietnam buys Chinese vaccine, based on history, China will claim credit for 'saving Vietnam', 'without China, all Viets would have been wiped off the face of the earth', 'there's no Vietnam without Chinese vaccine', 'Vietnam must give China some territories as gratitude otherwise it is stabbing China in the back', blah, blah, blah... So if you were Vietnam, would you buy Chinese vaccine?! LOL!

The USSR had also lent a BIG help in the war and in 2000, Russia also erased USD 9.5 BILLIONS of debt that Vietnam incurred under Soviet's time. Vietnam still owes Russia a lot but Russia has never bragged about it! The Chinese, on the other hand, got in bed with the US, back stabbed Vietnam in 1979 and 10 years after that, destroyed all the infrastructures they built during the war near the border, killed a lot of Viet civilians, so Vietnam now doesn't owe them anything. The insidious, petty, and boastful Chinese should stop bragging!

@straydog163 Every war China has is always 'defensive' (according to China of course)! On Vietnam case, China also says it's a 'defensive offensive' but I know for a fact, it wasn't 'defensive' at all! So it's very hard to believe what China says about the others.

China has dispute with S Korea and Japan over islands and a rock in the East China Sea too, so why it didn't draw a similar like in the ECS if the SCS' line's purpose is really for claiming islands? 2. If the line in the SCS only means for those islands, not the WHOLE sea, why is it necessary AT ALL?! 3. Why does a line which only means to claim inhabitable islands in the middle of the SCS extend all the way to the coastline of all the relevant SEA countries?! 4. The line's meaning is not even clear among Chinese; China also has never officially and explicitly explained its meaning; some Chinese officials and scholars have clearly stated that the line mean China own the WHOLE sea, so you cannot say you 'all' know it's just about the islands!

@kitschchauvinismus_9394 No, you're anything but honest. In the Korean War, Chinese army only went home after both sides had reached an armistice and stopped the fight completely. In Cambodia's case, the Khmer Rouge didn't stop fighting. They fled over Thailand, regrouped and fought back from there because they had supports from the US, China and their dogs. When an agreement was reached to stop the fighting in 1989, Vietnam withdrew. It's not 'totally different'! Vietnam stayed only because China and the US prolonged the war, not because she wanted to. And Vietnam was there to fight the Khmer Rouge with agreement of the new Cambodia Hun Sen government. In fact, Hun Sen had actually run over the border asking Vietnam for help in the first place! So it's not an 'occupation' like the evil China has been slandering Vietnam.

Vietnam kicked the Mongols out thrice on its own while China was conquered and put under their rule for nearly 100 years, so don't be full of it like that! China has 'the century of humiliation', Vietnam has its own too so they both help each other to kick the westerners out. @purelica When you're talking about cause, you should go to the root one. So, the cause isn't 'Vietnam has a 1000 years resenting China' but China has a 1000 year wanting to eat Vietnam alive. If China doesn't want to eat Vietnam alive, there wouldn't be no resentment.

@戚文玮 Actually, that wasn't a 'war between China and Vietnam', but it's another war of aggression of China against Vietnam following a long list of wars like that throughout history in every Chinese dynasty. Japan invades China once, but from the government down to the people, Chinese haven't forgot about that and you really distrust and hate Japan to the bone for that. So American media aside, you should understand that Vietnam has 10 more genuine and justifiable reasons to feel about China the exact same way you feel about Japan! We've been having that feeling for a very long time and before the existence of the US or its media and it keeps getting reinforced by Chinese aggression against us again and again! You Chinese are also under the influence of your media, propaganda and arrogance against Vietnam too. You're not immune to that!

@shazmosushi Yours is THE huge simplification. Vietnam has only been had one legitimate government, the DRV since 1945. The Saigon regime was a puppet created, backed and used by the US to intervene in Vietnam. The US only backed its puppet regime, not the South Vietnamese. They only went around massacred the South Vietnamese to keep its puppet afloat!

@Blind Frog There were 1000 Chinese buried in Vietnam for the whole course of the war, so I give it 1500 dead at most. 1500 isn't qualify for a drop in the bucket compare to the 3.4 Viets died in the war and you claim the credit for defeating the US?! China backed the Khmer Rouge to attack and kill thousands of Viet villagers at the Viet-Cam border over the course of three years 1975-78, continued backing it in 10 years after it was deposed by Vietnam in 1978 causing great loss in both manpower an economy to Vietnam. China also ganged up with the US to diplomatically isolate and impose economic sanction on both Vietnam and liberated Cambodia causing great human suffering that Vietnam had to shoulder. China directly killed 10000 Viet civilians in the border incursion. China took Viet islands in 1974 and again in 1988. And those are not all! SO, whatever 'help' China brought during the war, it more than destroyed them all and robbed something more valuable back after the war. So now, Vietnam doesn't fk owe China anything. On the contrary, China owes Vietnam whatever it robbed and the tens of thousands of Viet civilians who died at the hand of the Khmer Rouge and China directly. So S T fU ALREADY about China's 'help'!

You have forgot that China invaded and turned Vietnam into one of its province over two thousand years ago, forced the Viets to adopt Chinese culture to assimilate them. After getting kicked out in 939, China has been attacking Vietnam every chance it gets in every dynasty. The 1979 attack was only one of many other attacks throughout history and you also forgot China's attack on Viet islands in 1974 and 1988 too.

And these were the words coming out of the mouth of a Chinese leader in the highest office of China, Deng Xiaoping, to a US president, Jimmy Carter, when he visited the US in 1979, 'The little child is getting naughty, it's time he got spanked'. Do you happen to know if he's ever referred to any other country as a 'little child'?! He think he's not little? LOL! These are just a few examples of what I've been observing throughout the years about Chinese attitude towards Vietnam. I'm not an extremist, very much aware of not going down that road. I'm not quick to judge anything. My conclusion comes from years of observation and learning history. I don't watch or read western MSM about international matters unless it's for amusement purpose. With personal experiences of their lies against Vietnam and pretty much about anything else, I'm immune to the west's propaganda, so it cannot influence me in a million years. All of what I told you has come straight from the mouths of Chinese media, scholar, general population and the highest political leader. Western media has nothing to do with that.

@jvs333 Why did you just read what I said about 2000 years ago but not the rest?! Vietnam took Cambodian land in 1700s but hasn't attacked FIRST or took anything from it since. It happened only once in history and ended there! China hasn't stopped attacking or taking Vietnam's properties since before the first millennium until the very present day! Can you see the difference and pattern?! Do you know of another example like that in the world?! Believe me, this thing about China's love to pick on Vietnam and rob for the entire length of Vietnam's history is unparalleled in this world! No, 1979 is not a border dispute war. It was, in Deng Xiaoping's own word, was a war to 'teach the little naughty boy a lesson'. Have you known of any thing more ridiculous and barbaric than that? In order to 'teach a naughty boy', a Chinese leader was ready to burn 20000 men of his own in three weeks!

Vietnam's claim doesn't include the parts of the sea that hug the coastline of its neighbors like China and that's only a response to China ridiculous claim. If Vietnam claims less, China will take more! That's the problem! China's ridiculous claim is STILL the root cause here.

@chd0043 Yes, there were wars and skirmishes. China had border wars and skirmishes with many of its neighbors from the 1960s onwards. It attacked Vietnam three times in 1974, 1979, and 1988 separately on land and sea to rob islands. The war on Vietnam-China border actually last 10 years. It also had border wars with the Soviet Union, and India in the 1960s

They most definitely weren't in the front line fighting because unless they wore invisible cloth, ALL sides would have seen 170,000 of them everywhere! You simply cannot hide something like that at the front! Even New Zealand, or Thai troops who're at around a few thousands and did support roles were seen in Vietnam by ALL sides! Unless they're Superman, the deaths would have been in many tens of thousands, and double of that crippled if they really had involved in front line combat because everybody knows they suck! In only three weeks at Viet border, 25,000 of them had managed to die! So how can anybody believe China had lost only 4000 in 10 years of the Vietnam War AT THE FRONT FK LINE?! LOL! You see? @blightfrog 300,000 were the total Chinese sent for the whole war. It's about equal to the total number of S. Korean troops sent to Vietnam and only a fraction of the total of 2.7 millions US troops. And Chinese strictly did labor works so why do you guys keep on bragging about it?! What do you really want?! The works China did in Vietnam were mostly at the border far from harm and none of them died in combat. In 1979, petty Deng Xiaoping ordered Chinese troops to stab Vietnam in the back while she was in Cambodia kicking little Pol Pot's @ss, and the petty Chinese destroyed everything they built at the border a long time ago so stop bragging already! They had stayed there for 10 years because China and the US had supported Pol Pot's seat in the UN for most of that time. If Vietnam left right away, China and the US would back Pol Pot to come back so everything would be wasted. I've said so in the previous post you br|ch head. The USSR dissolved in 1991, Vietnam had the withdrawal plan inplace in 1985, executed it immediately and finished the whole thing in 1989 when she was sure the new Cambodian government had become strong enough to stay in power and subdue the Khmer Rouge, so that was all done two years before the collapse of the USSR. No, the stupid Khmer Rouge was wrong the whole time, and you don't know $h1t! No, that's not a real cause. If history is irrelevant like you said, the whole world wouldn't bother to teach and learn it! In fact, learning history may predict the future! If you go onto any topic about Vietnam, doesn't have to be politic related, no matter US' or Chinese platform, you can easily see a very strong and blind hate from the absolute majority Chinese in there for Vietnam. 'Vietnam stabs China in the back' is one of the most common line, but when I ask when and how, nobody can give an answer, not even a lame one! That how much the majority of Chinese hate Vietnam. They don't even need a reason to hate! That's the reality.

@huaninglyu7372 I have Chinese friends too. China is a very large country with many different peoples. The people in Guangxi, Guangdong and Viets have a lots in common. They may be closer to Viets in culture and origin than to Northern Chinese. Vietnamese and Cantonese speakers can easily recognize many words from each other. The pronunciations of those words are almost identical. Their looks sometimes are a lot like each other and distinctively different than Northern Chinese. The problem lies within the mentality of the majority of Chinese from the general population to the ruling elite. Through all generations and eras for the span of more than 1000 years, they still think Vietnam is a Chinese province. They can't get over it and expect Vietnam to kowtow to all their wills! They always like to say Viets have Han's blood but they always wants to take from Vietnam, if not the whole thing at once then bit by bit. They choose to treat Vietnam like a slave, not a brother or sister. That's the millennium long problem that destroys trust from Viets.

And the TV host said it with full of joy that the Chinese took those islands from Viets. It's easy to tell they're full of hate.

The hate is strong. Chinese call Viets 'monkeys' and no one there has problem with that. I guess that's a standard among Chinese. There're many Chinese haters in Vietnam but they don't refer to Chinese as subhuman, so it's safe to say the degree of hate is actually stronger in China and Chinese think like the Nazis that they're so high above other people.

It orders the US government to create wars to feed them. About the antiwar movement: in order to have a big enough anti war movement to stop a war, there must be enough casualties. There must be a lot of coffins coming home, and in turn there would be a draft! At the high of the Vietnam War, there were 700-800 coffins and 6 times of that wounded coming home a week to fuel the anti war movement red hot. So the root cause was always the hard fight of the Viets. There were anti war protests sprung up in the US right at the start of the Iraq War, but it died down very quickly because there weren't enough coffins coming home and so there was no draft and so nobody cared!

Nevertheless, YES, Vietnam did take Cambodian land but that had happened only once for the whole 1000 years of history of Vietnam after regaining independence from China. On the other hand, China has never stopped trying to take Vietnam throughout history, if not all at once then bit by bit. And you should remember that the area of land Vietnam took in the last 1000 years is tiny and insignificant compare to what China took in the same period. So if you say Vietnam is bad because of that, China is undeniably much worse. It's very hard for Vietnam to defend herself from China's onslaught if she doesn't have the southern part today because China keeps growing bigger and bigger over that period. On the contrary, China has no excuse to take those lands. It's just pure greed! And be careful what you wish for! In history, when China wasn't even this big, it had expanded up to the central part of Vietnam today. If Vietnam didn't kicked it out over 1000 years ago and stopped the flood, there might be no Cambodia today whatsoever because when China takes, it just doesn't stop in the middle like Vietnam did.
