  1.  @nmr6988  firstly no, the national guard is not under federal jurisdiction unless it is first federalized. Which hasn’t happened for a long time. The guard is always the ones who are called in during natural disasters and civil unrest. Secondly, border defense against what? Texans? Arkansans? Louisiana doesn’t need a border patrol filled with Meal Team Six drop outs. All I see here is a governor making a armed organization that only answers to him. Anybody would see this as a bad thing.

  7.  @nmr6988  then you increase the size of the national guard, not make a state sponsored paramilitary unit with no higher oversight other then the governor. What utility does this smaller unit even give when compared to the better national guard?
