@richardcline1337 lightoller didn’t order anything…..he was not in charge of the bridge….
1
The Olympic had the legal amount. The Lusitania and Mauretania had the required amount of life boats…..
1
@watchgoose TOO many differences, interior and exterior, between the ships to make a switch possible..
1
The fire hadn’t been ‘Raging” for 3 weeks. It was a smoulder. Very common on coal fired ships of the time. All bunkers are inspected at specific time during each watch period and the conditions of each are noted in the engineering log book. Any problems are passed up to the Captain The smolder was in the bottom of bunker “W” on the aft side of E.
1
So wrong….
1
The coal bunker fire was out on the 13th…
1
@xtevetyler5332 so what are the citations…..
1
No!!!
1
@Ridesharereflections it was RMS TITANIC…..no question about it….
1
@sallykohorst8803 the bunker smolder (fire) had nothing to do with the sinking of the RMS Titanic….it never got that hot. Nor did it effect the integrity of the steel of the hull. All the riveting was inspected by the board of trade. Any bad riveting was replaced.
1
@kirkcaricosr5382 it was NOT the engine room that was on fire. It was a coal bunker in boiler room 5. Bunker “W”. It was a smolder. Very common on ships of that time period.
1
@kirkcaricosr5382 and who wanted whom “killed”?
1
@kirkcaricosr5382 so you can’t or will not identify the people. The “who”…. was it really the Titanic…..??? …and the “Band played On”…..
1
The board of trade inspected the ships, the materials, the construction methods almost on a daily basis. There are still many record’s from that time period.
1
If spot lights worked all ships would have them..
1
@michaelderenne9838 didn’t burn for 3 weeks. Started in Southhampton after coaling. Didn’t’ affect the strength of the steel of the hull. Fire (smolder) was out on Saturday….
1
No way the ships could have been changed. Too many differences on the outside and inside.
1
You would have to have 15,000+ ship workers, office workers and others to keep mum about this. Highly unlikely It WAS Titanic that sank…
1
It was not inch and half steel. It split at a seam between 2 plates…..
1
Where on the plans are the sea cocks located?
1
@Rubin_Schmidt what part of the wreck were the sea cocks located?
1
Failed what sea trials?
1
J P Morgan did not finance the construction of the olympic ships. WSL financed there construction.
1
He turned the wheel to the left. To port….
1
Tiller comands. Hard a starbord means turn to port..
1
The rivets were fine. The bulkhead hight was fine. Traveling at high speed was the accepted practice of the time…
1
What costs were cut? What was fatal wrong turn?
1
There were many years of experience amongst the officers. How do you make the best technology of the time better? Rivets were fine. The coal bunker smolder had no effect on the strength of the ship. What ice crusher front end? The size of the “drive” system (power plant) was fine….if you mean rudder that was of the right size….
1
Officer Murdoch DID NOT put the engines into reverse. He called for ALL stop.
1
@Stella Jones no one forced the captain to do any thing…
1
So if the “radio boys” didn’t fix the wireless, against company policy, what would have happened?
1
@loveywilliams4276 could you clarify please. What machinery was melting and overheated. What should have been the right flares? What safety measures were not put on?
1
@aldenunion the seam that was opened up was 25 feet below the surface….
1
@mandamank6846 fire “smolder” had no effect on the hull strength…
1
Don’t hurt yourself
1
@loveywilliams4276 there were NO stowaways aboard the Titanic
1
@loveywilliams4276 there were NO stowaways on board… none…
1
@Woodman-Spare-that-tree there were ships officers stationed at each boarding point checking tickets….where would a stowaway stay? How would they eat? Room stewards knew what rooms were occupied what weren’t…where would you hide? … you needed tickets for the food service…even in 3rd the stewards knew their passengers….
1
Not even remotely possible…way to many differences between the ships exteriors and interiors
1
No one was locked below…
1
NO! Coal smolder had nothing to do with the sinking…
1
Had nothing to do with Murphy’s law…. Nor any of the above.
1
@exileayahika first off, not this documentary is NOT 100% accurate. All rivets were tested after they were placed..(sounded with a hammer) nothing was rushed. The men took pride in the work they did. Not like today. There was no tweaking of rivets before the crash. So the temperature made them shrink on one side and the heat made them ??? On the inside…..
1
Fire had nothing to do with sinking….
1
@proseache they steered by “tiller” commands...hard a starboard would turn the ship to port.....very old terminology....
1
Olympic had the same number of lifeboats. The lusitania and Mauretania had same number of lifeboats..
1
Saving money? What money was saved. For who? The olympic was built to the same standard….and she lasted how long?
1
@thatguyinelnorte it WAS the Titanic. How do you account for the many differences between the ships
1
Binoculars would have been of no use.. It was standard practice to stop the engines
1
@Shadow0fd3ath24 read Dillon’s testimony, someone working in the engine room at the time, 3715–3729… about how the engines stopped then reversed. Read the Captain’s testimony about the use of binoculars by the lookouts… …all available online…
