The P13/14 is a target rifle taken to war. The SMLE is a Military rifle you can take to the range. Anyway the best parts of the P13, the barrel and sights went onto the SMLE No 4 in 1939

One thing that this rifle did do was to overcome the fixation the British had with the rear sight halfway up the action. The No $ has the rear sight almost identical. Though the N0 4 was only adopted in 1939, so most of the British Army in the Middle and Far East went through the early part of WW2 with the No3 rifle. Watch film of Alimain and you'll se ethe old 16inch sword bayonet which the No 4 never fitted. India also produced the no3, which has varation on the barrel bedding to European manufacture. So saying the final .303 Mk VII round kept going and is still in use today.

Roy Perkins Home gaurd used the P14 and the P1917, just to confuse. The P1917 had a 4 inch broad red band painted around the stock to diferentiate. The bayonets had a two vertical gro grooves cut int each side of the hilt as well. The feel is distinctivley diffrerent from the SMLE pattern.
