In 1684, the Qing government established Taiwan prefecture under Fujian province. In 1887, Taiwans status was upgraded to a province. There. This is straight from Taiwans Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) site: From September 1, mainland Chinese citizens residing or studying in third places (as defined in Subparagraphs 3 and 4, Paragraph 1, Article 3 of the Regulations Governing Permits for People from Mainland China to Enter Taiwan for Tourism Activities) can apply for permits to visit Taiwan for tourism activities. See the word PERMIT here? Not Visa? What do you have to say now?

@browncony3897 Because PRC is seen as the successor state to ROC as the government of China. And successor states inherits all of the predecessor governments territory. This is recognised by all world powers in this world, including the US and the UN.

@dyu999 And yes they do. Countries do in fact need recognition to be a "country". There are many self-proclaimed "countries" in the this world. In fact, there are plenty of people in the US that proclaim that their block of land is their own country. They made up their own laws, constitution, military, flag, etc etc. But theyre not recognised. Thats why theyre not a "country". Eastern Ukrainian Donbass regions Donetsk and Luhansk declared independence in 2014. Are they a "country"? With no recognition, "countries" are not "countries".

Im making sure you that YOU know that "TWs" constitution claims that the country that they claim to be is the country called "China", not "TW". You also said something about "forcing" unification. How is it "forcing" when again, unification is literally in their constitution? In my previous comment to that, I literally said : Because PRC is seen as the successor state to ROC as the government of China. And successor states inherits all of the predecessor governments territory. This is recognised by all world powers in this world, including the US and the UN. So where did successor of Qing Dynasty come from? ROC is the successor of Qing.

For PRC to even be on the UN, world powers must recognise PRC as the legitimate government of China, not ROC, and all must agree that TW is part of China. All countries including the US agrees to that. So it DOES apply to other "events". Ill say your worlds right back at you "which part do you not get"?

Especially since you say youre Chinese, I say with utmost certainty that most Chinese doesnt call ROC as "TW". When they say TW, they mean TW island only, not the governing state, Republic of China. And no, even the "people" of TW dont have that power. Only the national assembly does. And about half of those seats are from KMT. And guess what KMT believes in? That they are China, and that TW is part of China! It takes 75% of the national assemblys vote to even change their name. So by that, we know that they can never change their "countrys" name from China to TW. Because ROC officially claims to be the country called "China" after all.
