  1. India will need cradle-to-grave tracking of trouble over the entire subcontinent. Doubling homegrown efforts to develop more sophisticated technologies for electronic surveillance and satellite imaging with novel modalities to track the movement of trouble from source (no one else will simply give away the needed data to India), and highly mobile sharp-shooters to arrange for the graves at the border. May sound harsh, but is necessary.

  2. It is detestable to even think that India will play the colonial game of protectorates and spheres of influence. It is however entirely reasonable to try to build bridges to the Afghan hearts and minds using our shared history and heritage based on mutual respect. This underutilized strategy holds true for many other countries in Asia. Finally, a shout out to Shri Shekhar Gupta for mentioning Chanakya neeti! I hope it catches on.
