Thank you for a timely episode. Most pubic health announcements seem to suggest washing hands frequently, not touch surfaces you don't need to touch, use the back of hands and not the finger tips for rubbing eyes - that too if absolutely necessary, self-quarantine yourself if it feels like you are coming down with something (6 feet away from others seems to be a safe distance) and seek medical attention, cough or sneeze into your sleeve, and don't miss meals or sleep. Avoid shaking hands for a couple of months until this settles down - people will understand. Finally, the time-honored Indian home remedy of a glass of hot milk with turmeric works well to provide relief from symptoms of the common cold if taken early.

A bit more on turmeric: pubmed.gov is a widely used biomedical research database. A search for 'turmeric' returns 5319 research articles on turmeric, 703 of them published from USA. Two of the articles described preclinical research on turmeric and ARDS, or acute respiratory distress syndrome. ARDS is probably the most serious consequence of COVID-19. This doesn't necessarily lead to any conclusions about the utility of turmeric for COVD-19, but it is one of those sensible things where if you would any way drink a glass of milk for nutrition, it may provide some relief to add half a teaspoon of turmeric to it.
