An American general once said that history of the world shows that the less civilised groups have more aggression and tend to overrun the more civilised groups. I certainly mangled his words, but the challenge for the more civilised groups in Afghanistan is to find the animal spirits within to defeat the terrorists, for the sake of their future generations. No one else can or will do it. They don't have to look far to see what is possible both for better and for worse, and that such seemingly inconceivable reemergence is possible. It literally is do or die.
